Retail requirements in Singapore
If your store is located in a mall in Singapore, then you might be required to send a gross turnover (GTO) report to the landlord or operator on a daily basis.
Shopify POS doesn't include gross turnover (GTO) reporting functionality. However, there are several third-party solutions for sending gross turnover reports. Some of these third-party options might have an additional cost.
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| EIX (third-party app) | This third-party app generates a gross turnover report according to the file format provided by your landlord and submits the report to the shopping mall using either the local network connection or internet connection. The app integrates with Shopify POS. |
| EISOL (third-party app) | This third-party app automates real-time or daily sales submissions to the shopping mall. The app integrates with Shopify POS. |
| Exporteo | This third-party app generates generic or customized reports and can automatically upload it to an FTP server. The app integrates with Shopify POS. |
| ERP (Enterprise resource planning) System | If you already use an ERP system with Shopify POS, then you might be able to use this system to create a GTO report and send it to your landlord. |
Retail requirements in Spain
If your store operates in Spain, then you're required to comply with Fiscalization requirements by January 1, 2026. To help you comply, printed receipts in Shopify POS automatically include the tax rate and taxable amount for each item, and a tax summary by rate bracket at the bottom of the receipt. These sections aren't customizable and are included by default.
To help ensure compliance on Shopify POS, make sure you also meet the following requirements:
- Download and install the free Comply app from the Shopify App Store. With Comply, Shopify POS operates in compliance with current Veri*Factu obligations in Spain by enabling automatic auditing of all Shopify POS transactions in Spain. It automates the generation of invoices, QR codes, and linked digital signatures, and real-time submissions to the Tax Office, ensuring valid tax identification numbers between stores and terminals.
- You can't apply a tax override to any order.
- You can't mark a transaction as partially paid or unpaid at checkout in Shopify POS.
- Offline transactions including offline card payments, cash, or other manual payments aren't fiscally compliant. You need to manually reconcile these transactions with your local government to ensure compliance.
- You can't sell product bundles in Shopify POS for retail locations in Spain.
Set up the Comply App for fiscal compliance in Spain
When your store needs to comply with Spanish fiscal requirements, a banner displays in your Shopify admin that says: "It appears you have one or more retail locations in Spain. To ensure your Shopify POS system is operating optimally in Spain, and avoid potential penalties, you should install the Comply app now." Follow the steps to install the Comply app.
Steps:
- From the notification banner in your Shopify admin, click Install app.
- Follow the guided onboarding process in the Comply app.
- When you've completed the onboarding process in the Comply app, you can add the app as a tile to your smart grid, and then activate the additional functionality for Comply POS UI Assistant.
The setup automatically applies to all existing POS devices. When you add new devices, the compliance settings are included automatically.
For comprehensive setup instructions and configuration options, refer to the Comply app user guide.
Retail requirements in France
If your store operates in France, then you're required to comply with Marque NF525.
Marque NF525 certification for Shopify POS is issued through Infocert, a third-party certification service. To stay compliant in France, you need to update the Shopify POS app to version 11.3 or later and install the free Comply app.
Set up the Comply app for fiscal compliance in France
All businesses that sell in person in France must have a French business registration number (SIREN) and a French business establishment number (SIRET) for each selling location. This requirement applies regardless of business size, where your business entity is registered, or how long you plan to sell, including temporary and pop-up locations.
Your SIREN and per-location French business establishment numbers are required to set up and activate the Comply app. If you use Shopify POS version 11.3 or later, then you must activate Comply before you can accept in-person sales. If you uninstall Comply, then sales are blocked until Comply is installed and activated again.
Steps:
- Install the free Comply app from the Shopify App Store.
- In the Comply app, enter your business details, including your SIREN, NAF code, and VAT number.
- Enter a SIRET number for each physical location that you sell from.
- When you've completed the onboarding process in the Comply app, you can add the app as a tile to your Smart grid and activate the additional functionality for Comply POS UI Assistant.
NF525 compliance on Shopify POS versions older than 11.3
You can continue to use Shopify POS versions older than 11.3, with or without the Comply app installed, but your sales might not meet Marque NF525 requirements. It's recommended that you consult local legal counsel about compliance risks, and consider upgrading to Shopify POS version 11.3 or later with the Comply app activated on your store.
Verifying Marque NF525 certification for Shopify POS
You can view Marque NF525 certification details for Shopify POS in either of the following ways:
- On Infocert's website, use certificate number
525/0700-1. - From Shopify POS, go to Settings > Comply to view Marque NF525.
POS receipt requirements for France
For retail locations in France, a printed receipt is called a ticket, and a digital receipt is called an order summary in Shopify POS.
Printed receipts in Shopify POS automatically include the tax rate and taxable amount for each item, and a tax summary by rate bracket at the bottom of the receipt. After you install the Comply app and enter your details, receipts also include your VAT ID and per-location SIRET number. These sections aren't customizable and are included by default.
To comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), POS receipts don't include information about your POS staff.
To comply with Marque NF525, make sure that you also meet the following requirements:
- You must have a physical receipt printer connected to Shopify POS. Your receipt printer doesn't need certification.
- If a customer asks for a printed receipt, then you must print one. Printed receipts are the only fiscalized receipts. The Comply app still records the order for compliance when you don't print a receipt.
- You can't use the receipt code editor for retail locations in France.
- You can't mark a transaction as partially paid or unpaid at checkout in Shopify POS.
- You can't apply a tax override to any order, unless you're registered as a microbusiness.
- You can't process offline transactions, including payment cards, cash, or other manual payments.
- You can't sell product bundles in Shopify POS for retail locations in France.
Fiscal header and footer details for printed tickets
After you complete onboarding in the Comply app, your printed tickets include a fiscal header and footer. The format and information on each ticket meet Marque NF525 requirements and reflect the following business and location details from the Comply app:
- Your business name, address, postal code, country, business activity code, and VAT number are included in the header of your printed tickets. This information identifies your overall business, not a single retail location, as Marque NF525 requires.
- The SIRET number for each retail location is included in the header of your printed tickets.
- The date, a unique receipt ID, and whether the ticket is an original print or a duplicate are included in the footer of your printed tickets.
- The fiscal header and footer are displayed only on printed tickets. They aren't displayed in the receipt editor preview in Shopify POS. Print a test ticket from Shopify POS to review the fiscal information.
- The header and footer use the language that's configured for the device where you use Shopify POS. To change the language, update your language settings on that device.
- The size, placement, and font are fixed to meet Marque NF525 requirements and can't be customized.
- To change the information displayed on your tickets, update your business or location details in the Comply app. Your changes apply to tickets that you print after you save them.
Stores in France with multiple legal entities
The Comply app supports one SIREN number per Shopify store. If you operate multiple legal entities in France with separate SIREN numbers, then you must create a separate Shopify store for each legal entity. Each store can have its own Comply configuration with its own SIREN number.
If you're on the Shopify Plus or Enterprise Commerce plan and you have set up multi-entity selling in a single store in your Shopify admin, you can enter the SIREN number for your store one time in the Comply app and then assign the correct SIRET number to each of your locations.
If you require further assistance with your Comply setup for multi-entity selling, then contact Shopify Support.
NF525 requirements for French overseas territories
Marque NF525 requirements apply to retail locations in metropolitan France and in the following French overseas territories:
- Guadeloupe (GP)
- Martinique (MQ)
- Réunion (RE)
Marque NF525 requirements in Mayotte (YT) are currently transitional. You can install and activate the Comply app, but it's recommended that you consult local legal counsel to confirm your specific compliance obligations.
Shopify POS cart blocking won't be enforced for retail locations in other French overseas territories, including Mayotte (YT), Saint Martin (MF), and French Guiana (GF). If your retail locations are in one of these territories, then consult local legal counsel to understand how NF525 might apply to your business.
Comply for stores in France with locations in multiple countries
If your Shopify store has locations in France and in other countries, then the following requirements apply:
- The Comply app and NF525 requirements apply only to your French locations.
- Locations outside France aren't affected by NF525 and aren't subject to cart blocking.
- You can activate the Comply app one time for France by providing your SIREN, NAF code, and VAT number, and then assign a SIRET number to each French location. Locations in other countries aren't included in Comply onboarding.
If your store also has locations in Spain, then you must set up the Comply app for Spain and set up the Comply app for France separately.
Retail requirements in Belgium
If your store is based in Belgium and is in the HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering/Cafés) sector, then you might need to meet fiscal compliance requirements. Shopify POS isn't registered and certified for this purpose.
Retail requirements in Denmark
If your store is based in Denmark and is a cafe, pub, discotheque, grocer, restaurant, or public house, then you're required by law to use POS systems that are registered and certified with the Denmark tax administration. Shopify POS isn't currently registered and certified for this purpose.
