Issuing fiscal receipts for retail orders
You can issue a fiscal receipt for retail orders processed with Shopify POS by processing payments using WisePad 3 and a supported printer, such as the Epson FP-81 II RT Receipt Printer available from the Shopify Hardware Store. Another compatible printer is the Epson FP-90III RT, which is available from third-party sellers.
Printer hardware connection to the tax office
Supported printers connect to the Italian tax authority and send information about processed sales for tax compliance.
Registering payment instruments with your RT printer
Starting January 1, 2026, Italian law requires retail merchants in Italy who use a Registratore Telematico (RT) to digitally link their electronic payment instruments with their RT printer through the Agenzia delle Entrate Fatture e Corrispettivi portal.
This guide is for merchants in Italy who have activated Shopify Payments on their store and use the Epson FP-81 II RT Receipt Printer to print fiscal receipts. If you use a third-party payment provider or a different RT printer, then refer to Guida Operativa POS-RT and FAQ - Collegamento POS-RT.
Eligibility for registering payment instruments with your RT printer
You're required to register your payment instruments in the Fatture e Corrispettivi portal if you use a telematic cash register (RT printer) to issue fiscal receipts for payments processed using an electronic payment instrument.
This applies to Shopify POS merchants in Italy who have activated Shopify Payments and have the following setup:
- You use a Shopify card reader, such as WisePad 3 and POS Terminal.
- You have activated the payment methods Tap to Pay on iPhone or Tap to Pay on Android on your store. Tap to Pay is classified as a physical payment instrument (SoftPOS), so it must be digitally linked to your RT printer.
- You use the Epson FP-81 II RT Receipt Printer to print fiscal receipts.
You might also need to register virtual payment instruments for online payments, in cases where businesses are required to issue digital receipts. It's recommended that you speak to a legal advisor to determine whether this applies to your business.
When to register your payment instruments
You must digitally link your payment instruments to your RT printer in the Agenzia delle Entrate Fatture e Corrispettivi portal by April 19, 2026. This includes payment instruments that you already owned on January 1, 2026, or that you received during January 2026.
For payment instruments activated after January 31, 2026, or for any changes to your setup, you must complete registration between the 6th day of the second calendar month following activation or change, and the last working day of that same month. For example, you must register a payment instrument activated in April 2026 between June 6 and June 30, 2026.
Requirements for registering payment instruments
If you use Shopify Payments, then you need the following information to digitally link your payment instrument to your RT printer in the Agenzia delle Entrate Fatture e Corrispettivi portal:
- Your Shopify Payments agreement number. This agreement number is a unique identifier for your Shopify Payments account. The store owner must contact Shopify Support to request the agreement number.
- The serial number (S/N) for each payment instrument you use. In the Fatture e Corrispettivi portal, enter each serial number as the Terminal-id for that payment instrument.
Payment instrument serial numbers
Depending on which payment instrument you use with Shopify POS, you can find the serial number in the following ways:
| Payment instrument | How to find the serial number (S/N) |
|---|---|
| WisePad 3 reader | On the back of the reader, there's a sticker that includes a barcode. The serial number (S/N) is printed under the barcode. |
| POS Terminal | The serial number (S/N) is printed on a sticker on the back of the POS Terminal. |
| Tap to Pay | To view your serial number for Tap to Pay, you must update Shopify POS to version 11.3 or later. In the Shopify POS app, tap |
If the serial number isn't on your payment instrument or in Shopify POS, then contact Shopify Support.

Integration with the Italian Lottery
You can enter the lottery code, which every Italian citizen can get from the lottery's portal, in Shopify POS. After you process the transaction, the printer records it. Receipts with the lottery code are sent to the Italian tax agency when you send a daily closing and automatically after 100 receipts.
Adding additional fees to orders
You can't add another fee, such as a revenue stamp, directly to orders processed with Shopify POS. As a workaround, you can create the fee as a product, hide it from the store, and then add it to the relevant carts.
Marking transactions as partially paid or unpaid at checkout
To comply with local fiscalization regulations in Italy, you can't mark a transaction as partially paid or unpaid at checkout in Shopify POS.
Adding customer VAT number or fiscal code at checkout
You can't add the customer’s VAT number or fiscal code during checkout. You can add this information as a note to the order, or to the customer name or address in their profile.
Adding customer VAT number or CF on the fiscal receipt
You can't add the customer’s VAT number or CF directly on the fiscal receipt. You can add this information as a note to the order, or to the customer name or address in their profile.
Accessing a summary of receipts from the Shopify admin
You can access a summary of receipts for a specific year in the Sales Report.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
In the Finances section, click Finance Summary.
