Printed receipt visual editor
You can customize the template for your printed receipts with the visual receipt editor. You can display any of the following customizations to your printed receipt template:
- Your store logo.
- Location address.
- Location phone number.
- A total sales box at the top of the receipt.
- SKUs.
- Compare at prices.
- Subscription plans.
- Discount codes.
- The name of the staff member attributed to sale.
- The name of the staff member at the register.
- Order notes.
- Customer information.
- A 1D or 2D barcode with the option to customize a QR code address.
- Custom messages on the header and footer.

Considerations for using the receipt visual editor
Review the following considerations before you use the receipt visual editor:
- You can customize your receipts using the POS editor in your Shopify admin. When you save a customization, the changes will apply to the selected location only.
- You can add only a custom header and footer from the visual editor for any specific locations with non-POS-Pro features.
- Customizations that you make in the visual editor apply to all types of printed receipts. You can use the preview to confirm how your changes display in different receipt types, such as sales receipts, gift receipts, and returns and exchanges receipts.
Customization options for printed receipts
The visual editor provides the same customization options for all receipt templates such as, Sales receipt, Gift receipt, and Returns and exchanges receipt. However, the gift receipt template won't display price-related information, such as the Total box, Compare at price, or Discount code used by default, regardless of whether the setting is active in the editor.

Add a logo to your printed receipts
You can add a logo to your receipts from the Point of Sale channel in your Shopify admin.
The printed receipt logo must be a JPEG or PNG file with a size of 400 px by 200 px, and the image must be in black and white. If you upload an image with color in it, then the image is converted into greyscale. You can replace or remove the logo at any time.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.
In the Customization section, click Printed receipts to open the POS editor.
Optional: Select the location that you want to customize your printed receipts for.
Click Header.
In the Logo section, click Add image to upload a 400 px by 200 px logo image file.
Optional: Use the Fullwidth logo setting to adjust whether the logo goes across the width of the receipt.
Click Save.
Select what sale information to display on your printed receipts
You can display additional information on your printed receipt template by customizing your receipt templates using the visual editor. For example, you can include a receipt barcode that opens the matching order in Shopify POS when scanned with a 1D or 2D barcode scanner or your device's camera.
You can save your customizations to all locations or to a specific location when you use the Shopify admin. Changes apply to sales receipts, gift receipts, and return and exchange receipts, when applicable.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.
In the Customization section, click Printed receipts to open the POS editor.
Optional: Select the location that you want to customize your printed receipts for.
Click Header, and then select any of the following options:
- To include the receipt total in large print, activate Total box.
- To include the store address for the selected location, activate Store address.
- To include the store phone number for the selected location, activate Store phone number.
Click Transaction summary, and then select any of the following options:
- To include the product SKUs for each line item, activate SKUs.
- To include the original sale price for each line item, activate Compare at price.
- To include the staff sales attribution for each line item, activate Staff attributed to sale.
- To include the breakdown of which discounts are applied to each line item, activate Discount code used.
- To include any order notes after the transaction totals, activate Order notes.
Click Footer, and then select any of the following options:
- To include the name of the customer for the order, activate Customer name.
- To include the name of the staff that completed the transaction, activate Staff at register.
- To include a custom QR code for a link that you set, activate Custom QR code, and then set the Code label and URL.
- To change the format of the order barcode, such as 1D or 2D, select your preferred option in the Barcode menu.
Click Save.
Add a custom header or footer text to your receipts
You can add a custom message in the header and footer of your printed receipts using the POS visual editor. You can add a simple thank-you message, or include store information, such as your return policy or store hours.
This customization option is available for POS locations that don't subscribe to POS Pro. You can save your customizations to all locations or to a specific location when you use the Shopify admin. Changes apply to sales receipts, gift receipts, and return and exchange receipts.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.
In the Customization section, click Printed receipts to open the POS editor.
Optional: Select the location that you want to customize your printed receipts for.
To add a custom message to your header, do the following actions:
- Click Header.
- In the Header text field, add your custom message.
To add a custom message to your footer, do the following actions:
- Click Footer.
- In the Footer text field, add your custom message.
Click Save.
Preview your printed receipts
You can preview the following options from the visual editor:
- Receipt type: You can preview the sale receipt or gift receipt template.
- Printer: You can preview your receipt template on the Star Micronics/Epson TM (80 mm) printer or on the Star Micronics mPOP™ (57 mm) printer.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.
In the Customization section, click Printed receipts to open the POS editor.
Optional: Select the location that you want to preview your printed receipts for.
In the preview pane, use the receipt type drop-down menu to select the type of receipt that you want to preview, such as sales receipt, gift receipt, or returns and exchanges receipt.
In the Preview options menu, select the printer type that you want to preview.
