Discontinued card readers for Shopify POS and their replacements
To provide the best retail and payment acceptance experience possible, Shopify POS is built to work with specific card readers. As new and improved card readers launch, these existing card readers are removed to ensure that Shopify merchants are using the latest hardware that delivers the most optimal retail experience.
To avoid unexpected errors or losing the ability to accept payments, make sure that you migrate to the recommended card reader options by the end of the support date for your discontinued card reader.
To recycle your discontinued card reader, drop it off at your local e-waste recycling center.

Shopify POS Go Support
POS Go devices purchased before August 28, 2024 in the United States, and before September 25, 2024 in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, and Spain will continue to be supported in mobile selling mode until May 26, 2027. After that date, POS Go automatically switches to countertop payment terminal mode. For full migration guidance, refer to Migrating from Shopify POS Go to other payment options.
The POS Terminal is sold as a complete unit that combines the POS Go with the Terminal Dock. In this configuration, POS Go functions as both a customer display and a payment terminal, which is called Customer Display Mode. Mobile functionality isn't supported, but you can continue to process sales with POS Terminal.
