How customers earn Shop Cash
Customers earn Shop Cash when they make an eligible purchase from your Shop Store, which can encourage them to purchase from you again.
Customers in the United States and Canada earn Shop Cash when all of the following requirements are met:
- The store that they're making a purchase from is in the United States and Canada.
- A promotional offer for earning Shop Cash applies to their order.
- They check out in the Shop app or on the Shop website.
- They pay with Shop Pay or Shop Pay Installments.
Customers don't earn Shop Cash on purchases made through your online store. Shop Cash is earned only on the part of the order paid with Shop Pay or Shop Pay Installments, and amounts covered by gift cards, rebates, or other discounts don't earn Shop Cash.
To learn more about earning Shop Cash, your customers can refer to Earn Shop Cash in the Shop Help Center.
How customers redeem Shop Cash
When customers redeem Shop Cash, it's applied as a payment toward their order from your store, and you're paid for the order the same way as a standard Shop Pay order.
Customers in the United States and Canada can redeem Shop Cash when all of the following requirements are met:
- The customers checks out in the Shop app or on the Shop website.
- The customer pays for their order using Shop Pay or Shop Pay Installments, and Shop Cash displays as an available payment method at checkout.
- The purchase doesn't include gift cards or digital products.
- Your store isn't a wholesale store.
If a customer has been redirected to your online store checkout from Shop, then they can redeem Shop Cash when they pay with Shop Pay or Shop Pay Installments. For example, a customer adds a product to their cart in the Shop app that isn't published for direct selling, and they're redirected to pay for their order on your online store checkout. When they check out using Shop Pay, they have the option to redeem their Shop Cash toward the order.
Customers can learn more about redeeming Shop Cash by referring to Redeeming Shop Cash in the Shop Help Center.
Getting paid with Shop Cash
When a customer uses Shop Cash toward an order, their Shop Cash is applied first, and any remaining balance is paid for with Shop Pay.
You get paid for orders made using Shop Cash as a payment method the same way that you're paid for Shop Pay orders. When you view a payout that includes Shop Cash, the payment type displays on the statement as Shop Cash Credit. Shopify funds Shop Cash, and there's no additional cost to you to accept Shop Cash beyond the Shopify Payments payout fees that are deducted from your payout.
Payouts for purchases made with Shop Cash are processed four times daily at 12:00 am, 6:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 6:00 pm ET. Depending on how many Shop Cash orders were placed since the last processing time, each Shop Cash Credit payout transaction might cover one or multiple orders. You can view your payout transactions to access a full breakdown of orders associated with Shop Cash. For Shop Cash payouts that include multiple orders, click the arrow icon in the Shop Cash line item to view the orders included in the payout.
Shop Cash also appears as a payment method in your Shopify analytics, as part of your finance reports.
If your store is located in a country other than the United States or Canada and a customer redeems Shop Cash on their order, then the Shop Cash value is automatically converted to your store's currency at the current exchange rate. You receive payment in your local currency.
Refunding an order paid for with Shop Cash
When you fully refund an order that was made using Shop Cash, the refund is first applied to the card that your customer used with Shop Pay. Any remaining balance is then credited back to the customer in Shop Cash. Customers can check their Shop Cash balance in the Shop app.
For example, if a customer pays for a $100 order with $20 Shop Cash, and $80 through Shop Pay, then they're refunded up to $80 to their Shop Pay payment method. The rest of the refund is credited back to their Shop Cash balance.
If you partially refund an order that includes Shop Cash as a payment type, then you can choose the refund amount that's refunded to the Shop Pay payment method, and how much is credited back to the customer's Shop Cash balance.
