Selling subscriptions on Shopify POS

You can sell subscription products to your customers both online and in-store using the Shopify Subscriptions app or a compatible third-party subscription app on the Shopify POS.

This allows in-store customers to purchase and manage subscription-based products with the same flexibility as buying online.

Requirements for selling subscription products on Shopify POS

To sell subscriptions in-store using Shopify POS, you need to meet the following requirements:

Considerations for selling subscriptions on Shopify POS

Before you offer subscription payments to your customers, review the following considerations.

Subscription setup and customer consent

  • You can sell only your existing subscriptions in the Shopify POS. If you want to create or edit a subscription, then you need to manage this in your chosen subscription app in the Shopify admin.
  • You can use the Customer View app on an Android device to allow customers to review and consent to subscription and cancellation policies on your customer-facing display during checkout. The Customer View app must be on the 2.15 version or higher.

Payment options for selling subscriptions

  • An order that contains a subscription can only be purchased by a credit card, debit card, or a digital wallet, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. If a customer wants to purchase other items in the order with a different payment method, then you need to create a separate order.
  • Gift cards can't be used as a payment method for subscriptions sold on the Shopify POS.
  • The Shopify POS doesn't support split payment for subscriptions.

Order, shipping, and refund limitations

  • You can't combine subscriptions with other purchase options.
  • Subscription products sold on the Shopify POS can only have a recurring shipping address within the same shipping zone.
  • You can't offer ship and carry out on orders that contain subscriptions on Shopify POS.
  • Shopify POS doesn't support exchanges on subscription products.
  • Subscription products can't be refunded to a gift card on Shopify POS.
