Setting up and managing Shopify Product Network

Setting up the Shopify Product Network app includes choosing placements for seller products, setting optional brand and category exclusions, and activating the app. After setup, you can edit your placements and exclusions.

Before you set up Shopify Product Network, review the Requirements and considerations for Shopify Product Network and How Shopify Product Network recommendations work.

Choosing where seller products display on your store

Each placement is a place on your store or in marketing emails where products from other Shopify stores, also known as seller products, are dsiplayed. You can turn on as many placements as you want, or turn them off anytime. Turning on more placements gives customers more chances to discover seller products, which can increase your potential commission.

In the Shopify Product Network app, placements are grouped into the following types:

  • Pre-purchase placements: These are pages that a customer views before checkout, including Search and Collections. Pre-purchase placements aren't compatible with Hydrogen or Headless storefronts.
  • Post-purchase placements: These are the pages that a customer views after checkout, including your Thank you and Order status page. Your store must use the new version of the Thank you and Order status pages to display post-purchase placements.
  • Apps placements: These are placements within your Shopify Messaging email campaigns. Abandoned checkout emails only display cart items from your store, not from other Shopify stores.

The Search placement adds seller products to your store's search results, with a Sold by label on each listing. This placement includes related seller products when a search doesn't match products in your catalog, so customers can still find options on your store. Seller products only populate in full search results, and aren't included in typeahead search.

Collections placement

The Collections placement adds seller products that match or complement the collection to your collections pages, with a Sold by label. This placement lets customers who are already shopping a collection discover seller products that fit the collection theme.

Thank you placement

The Thank you placement adds seller products to the Thank you page right after checkout. This placement highlights complementary products to customers right after they've completed a purchase, when they're still engaged with your store.

Order status placement

The Order status placement adds seller products to the page customers use to track an order. Customers often return to this page during order tracking, so they get another opportunity to browse related seller products.
