Considerations for customizing printed receipts for your Shopify POS

Customizing your printed receipts in Shopify POS lets you add branded details and important information to every transaction, such as your store's logo, contact details, return policy, or personalized messages for customers.

Depending on your Shopify POS subscription plan, you can customize the template for your printed receipts in the POS editor with the visual editor or the code editor, and adjust your receipt printing options.

Requirements for customizing printed receipts

Review the following eligibility requirements for customizing printed receipts and printing options:

  • You must have at least 1 location with the Shopify POS Pro subscription to use the following printed receipt customization features:
    • The receipt code editor.
    • Full customization options for the visual editor.
    • Printing options.
  • You can add only a custom header and footer from the visual editor for locations without POS Pro subscriptions.

Considerations for customizing printed receipts

Before you customize the templates for your printed receipts, review the following considerations:

  • If you have staff with POS PINs, then you can remove access to the receipt customization settings by selecting the Limited permissions option from your Staff settings screen. Learn more about assigning staff permissions.
  • Any colors added to a receipt template, such as by custom styling, or adding a logo with color, are converted to greyscale.
  • To make changes to all of your locations at one time, you need to use the POS editor from the Point of Sale channel in your Shopify admin on a desktop device.
  • You can use the visual editor from your Shopify admin or the Shopify app.
  • You can use printing options from your Shopify admin, the Shopify app, or the POS app.
  • You can use the code editor only from your Shopify admin on desktop.
  • The code editor isn't available for any locations in Italy.
