| Connection type | Considerations |
|---|---|
| USB with the Shopify POS Hub | Recommended for the most reliable setup. Compatible with iPad and Android devices. |

Connect your HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner using Shopify POS Hub

Troubleshoot Shopify POS Hub connection issues
If the Shopify POS Hub doesn't show as connected in Shopify POS, then complete the Shopify POS Hub troubleshooting steps.
If the Shopify POS Hub shows as connected but the scanner doesn't connect, then try plugging the scanner into a different USB-A port on the Shopify POS Hub. If possible, test the scanner with another compatible device to help determine whether the issue is with the USB-A ports on the Shopify POS Hub or with the scanner.
Change modes and reset your HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner
You can change your HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner mode by scanning programming barcodes from the HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner user guide. Before you scan a programming barcode, scan the Enter Setup barcode. After you scan the programming barcode, scan the Exit Setup barcode, unplug the scanner, and then plug it back in.
The scanner mode that you use depends on how you connect the scanner. For Shopify POS Hub connections, use USB HID-POS mode so Shopify POS can recognize the scanner as a barcode scanner instead of as keyboard input. For direct Android USB connections, use USB HID Keyboard mode with Allow HID mode turned on in Shopify POS.
Change to USB HID-POS mode
To use the HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner with the Shopify POS Hub, change the scanner to USB HID-POS mode.
Steps:
Scan the Enter Setup barcode.

Scan the USB HID-POS barcode from page 72 of HP's user guide.

Scan the Exit Setup barcode.

Unplug the scanner, and then plug it back in.
Change to USB HID Keyboard mode
USB HID Keyboard mode lets the scanner input scanned barcodes as keyboard input. Use this mode when you connect the scanner directly to an Android tablet with Allow HID mode turned on in Shopify POS, or when you need the scanner to work as a keyboard input device with another tool or app.
Steps:
Scan the Enter Setup barcode.

Scan the USB HID Keyboard barcode.

Scan the Exit Setup barcode.

Unplug the scanner, and then plug it back in.
Factory reset your HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner
To factory reset your HP Engage 2D G2 barcode scanner, scan the setup barcodes in order.
Steps:
Scan the Enter Setup barcode.

Scan the Restore All Factory Defaults barcode.

Scan the Exit Setup barcode.

Unplug the scanner, and then plug it back in.
After the reset, change the scanner mode based on how you use the scanner, and then reconnect the scanner based on your connection type.
If you use the Shopify POS Hub, then reconnect the scanner to the Shopify POS Hub. If the scanner displays as a keyboard or unknown device in Shopify POS, then tap the device in the Connectivity panel, tap Device type, and then select Barcode scanner. The Shopify POS Hub restarts and the scanner disconnects for a moment while the setting is applied. After the Shopify POS Hub reconnects, test scanning a product barcode again.
If you connect the scanner directly to an Android tablet, then reconnect the scanner through your Android USB setup. Confirm that Allow HID mode is turned on in Shopify POS, and then test scanning a product barcode from the Shopify POS home screen.
