Customer payment methods with Shopify Payments in Mexico
When you use Shopify Payments in Mexico, you can accept customer payments with credit and debit cards, accelerated checkouts, local payment methods, and cryptocurrency. Review the available options to determine which payment methods to activate for your store. The payment processing rates that you're charged for customer card purchases with Shopify Payments depend on the subscription plan that you have for your Shopify account.
You can manage your payment processing and order management systems directly from your Shopify admin. Your customers' data is protected through fraud detection and encryption methods such as 3D Secure.

Credit and debit cards with Shopify Payments in Mexico
Shopify Payments is only available for online selling in Mexico. You can't use Shopify Payments for in-person (POS) payment processing. To accept payments in person with Shopify POS, you must use an external card terminal with a third-party payment processor.
When you activate Shopify Payments, credit and debit card payments are automatically activated and no additional setup is required. You can accept payments from the following credit and debit card brands:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- UnionPay
Accept payments with American Express cards in Mexico
In Mexico, you can accept payments with American Express cards only when the customer chooses Mexican Peso (MXN) as their payment currency. You can activate American Express cards as a payment method from the Shopify Payments section of your admin.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Payments.
In the Shopify Payments section, click Manage.
Click More actions, and then click Manage payment methods.
In the Payment methods section, toggle American Express to activate the payment method.

The following accelerated checkout payment methods are available with Shopify Payments in Mexico:
Local payment methods with Shopify Payments in Mexico
You can offer eligible customers in Mexico the option to pay for their order in interest-free monthly installments using meses sin intereses, or in cash at an OXXO store using a voucher. Meses sin intereses is available only for credit card transactions processed in Mexican Peso (MXN). Local payment methods must be activated in the Payments section of your Shopify admin.
Local payment methods display at checkout based on your customer's location, not your store's location. This means that you can accept payments from customers in different countries using their chosen local payment methods.
The following table displays which payment methods you can activate and which countries your customers must be located in to use these options at checkout.

Additional eligibility requirements for specific local payment methods
Some local payment methods have additional eligibility requirements:
- OXXO: Your store must be located in Mexico and use a Shopify Payments Mexico account. Your customers must be located in Mexico, pay in Mexican pesos (MXN), and the amount that they pay with OXXO must be from 10 MXN to 10,000 MXN. Cryptocurrency with Shopify Payments in Mexico
With Shopify Payments in Mexico, you can accept cryptocurrency payments in USD Coin (USDC).
Credits for orders paid using USDC
If an order is placed using USDC cryptocurrency, then you receive a credit for each transaction. Depending on how you choose to get your USDC payments, you receive credits in the following ways:
- If you choose to receive USDC payments in your Shopify Payments payouts, then the credit is applied to your next available payout.
- If you choose to receive USDC payments to your USDC balance, then credits are accrued from the date of your first USDC transaction, and are paid out when this feature becomes available. You're notified by email when it's possible to receive credits for USDC transactions to your USDC balance. Learn more about claiming USDC payouts.
