Roles managed by Shopify
The following roles are managed by Shopify for Partner organizations. Some roles are shared with merchant organizations, and some are available only to Partner organizations. Roles managed by Shopify can't be customized or deleted.
Considerations for owner roles
The Organization owner and Store owner roles are required for each Partner organization and store. These roles have the highest level of permissions and have complete access to all features within an organization or store respectively.
Each store has only one store owner, and each Partner organization has only one organization owner. For client transfer stores, the Partner team member who created the store is the store owner until the store is transferred to a client.
Ownership structure for Partner organizations
- Each Partner organization has one organization owner only, and each store in the organization has one store owner only.
- Each organization must have an owner, and each store must also have a store owner.
- The organization owner can also be the store owner, or different stores within the organization can have different store owners.
- Organization owners might not have immediate access to a store in an organization. Learn more about how to access a new store in an organization.
Store owner access
- The following actions are available only to the store owner regardless of which permissions have been given to other users:
User management considerations
- You can't assign a store owner or organization owner role to a user the same way as other users. Instead, the current owner can change ownership to a new user.
- Organization owners have full access to organization features and management, and can perform most tasks in stores within the organization, except changing store ownership.
- If a store is part of an organization, then store owners in the organization can't create or manage roles.
