Required role permissions
Staff members require specific store permissions to use Tap to Pay in the Shopify app. The required permissions depend on where the user wants to use Tap to Pay.
To accept payments for Quick Sales, users require the Quick Sale permission as part of their role.
Store currency and location requirements
To set up and use Tap to Pay in your Shopify app, your store's location must match your store's currency. For example, if your store is based in Toronto, Canada, then your store currency must be CAD to meet the requirements for Tap to Pay. If your store currently sells in a currency that doesn't match your store location, then you must change your store currency to match your store location.
For a smoother customer experience, you can set up a market to continue selling to your online customers using your original currency. Setting up a market affects pricing on only your online store, displaying prices to online customers in the market's currency. It doesn't apply to in-person Tap to Pay transactions, which must always be processed in your store's location currency.
For example, if your store is based in Toronto, Canada, but your store's currency is set to USD, then you must change your store currency to CAD to use Tap to Pay. If you still want to continue to display prices to all of your online customers in USD, then you can set up a market containing all countries and regions where you sell and set the currency for that market to USD. This way, the in-person Tap to Pay transactions are processed in CAD, and your online store displays prices to customers in USD.
