Issuing and managing store credit in Shopify POS

From the Shopify POS app, you can review a customer's store credit balance, as well as provide a copy of that balance to your customer for their records.

You can also manually modify a customer's store credit balance without processing a transaction. For example, you can issue additional store credit for customer service purposes, or reduce the balance to correct a mistake.

  1. From Shopify POS, tap the Customer icon.

  2. Find your customer in the Customers list, and then tap their name.

  3. If there's store credit available, then the total available amount displays in the Wallets section.

  4. Optional: In the Wallets section, tap Store credit to review the expiration details and transaction history of the customer's store credit balance.

Modify a customer's store credit balance with Shopify POS

Typically, the store credit balance will update automatically when store credit is issued when processing a refund, or debited when redeeming the credit on an order.

However, you can manually modify a customer's store credit balance without having to process a transaction. In order to manually update a customer's store credit balance, a POS staff member must have the Manage a customer's store credit permission active.

Steps:

  1. From Shopify POS, tap the Customer icon.

  2. Find your customer in the Customers list, and then tap their name.

  3. In the Wallets section, tap Store credit.

  4. In the Balance section, tap Edit.

  5. In the Edit store credit balance dialog, update the customer's store credit balance:

    1. Depending on how the store credit needs to be modified, tap Add or Remove.
    2. Type in the amount of store credit that you want to add or remove. The New balance displays the updated total.
  6. Optional: Add an expiration date to the store credit amount:

    1. Tap Add expiry date.
    2. Select the month and day that you want the store credit to expire.
    3. Tap OK.
  7. To complete the balance adjustment, tap either Add to balance or Remove from balance depending on how the store credit is modified.

After you make the adjustment, you can add a note to record additional context about the store credit balance adjustment. This can be done by clicking the back arrow in the Store credit screen, and then within the customer profile screen, add the context in the Note section.
