Setting up the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer

Follow this guide to connect your Epson TM-m30III or TM-m30III-H receipt printer with Shopify POS, load paper, and make sure everything is set up for in-person sales.

Plug in your Epson TM-m30III receipt printer

Before you can use the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer, you need to connect your printer to the power supply.

Steps:

  1. Remove the panel on the back of the printer.
  2. Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your receipt printer.
  3. Plug the other end of the cable into a power outlet and turn on the printer.
  4. Reattach the back panel of the printer.

If the paper is loaded, then a diagnostic report prints.

Choose how to connect your Epson TM-m30III receipt printer

You can connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer in the following ways:

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with your POS device

To use the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with Shopify POS, you need to pair the printer with your device through Shopify POS. After the printer and device are paired, the printer connects to the device automatically whenever both are powered on and in range.

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with Bluetooth

You can connect your printer using Bluetooth and an iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Steps:

  1. In Shopify POS, tap the Connectivity Icon icon.
  2. Tap + Add hardware > Receipt printers > Epson > Bluetooth > TM30III.
  3. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  4. Load receipt paper.
  5. Open the top panel for loading paper.
  6. With the panel open, press and hold the button to feed paper until the paper light flashes. Release the button and close the panel.
  7. An instruction sheet prints. Quickly press and release the button one time to feed the paper into the printer.
  8. Press and hold the button for around 1 second to feed the paper into the printer. A Bluetooth status sheet prints and the Bluetooth light flashes.
  9. Tap Select an accessory > TM30III.

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with USB

You can connect your Epson TM-m30III receipt printer by USB in the following ways:

  • With the Shopify POS Hub to a compatible iPad or Android device.
  • With a direct USB-C cable to a compatible Android device.
Shopify POS Hub

Steps:

  1. Before you connect your hardware to the Shopify POS Hub, set up the POS Hub:

    1. Plug the Shopify POS Hub power cord into a power source.
    2. Connect the Shopify POS Hub's USB-C or Lightning cable to your POS device.
    3. Plug the other end of the Shopify POS Hub's USB-C or Lightning cable into the tablet port on the bottom of the Shopify POS Hub. Don't use any other USB-C port on the Shopify POS Hub for the tablet cable.

  2. Remove the back panel of the printer.

  3. Remove the bottom panel of the printer.

  4. Connect your printer to the power supply.

  5. Connect a USB-C connection to the printer's USB-PD port, and then connect the other end to a USB port on the Shopify POS Hub.

  6. After a few moments, Shopify POS connects to the printer. If prompted by the device, then allow the printer connection.

  7. Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.

  8. Reattach the bottom panel and back panel of the printer.

Android direct USB-C

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel of the printer.
  2. Remove the bottom panel of the printer.
  3. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  4. Connect a USB-C connection to the printer's USB-PD port, and then connect the other end to your Android device or Shopify POS Tablet Stand (USB-C).
  5. After a few moments, Shopify POS connects to the printer. If prompted by the device, then allow the printer connection.
  6. Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.
  7. Reattach the bottom panel and back panel of the printer.

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with Wi-Fi

You can connect your printer using Wi-Fi and an Android or POS Go device. Ensure that Bluetooth is activated on your POS device and Bluetooth permissions are granted to the POS app before connecting using Wi-Fi.

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel and the bottom panel of the printer.
  2. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  3. Load receipt paper.
  4. Open Shopify POS and then tap the Connectivity Icon icon.
  5. Tap + Add hardware > Receipt Printer.
  6. In the Available network printers section, tap your printer model.
  7. Optional: Test which printer you're setting up by tapping Print test receipt.
  8. Tap Complete Wi-Fi details.
  9. Complete the Wi-Fi details for your network:
    1. Confirm the Network security type.
    2. Confirm the Network name.
    3. Enter the Wi-Fi Password.
  10. Tap Connect.
  11. A list of Wi-Fi networks available to your device displays. Tap your Wi-Fi network, and then tap Done.
  12. Tap Done to complete the setup. The printer might take a few minutes to finish setting up and connecting to the POS.

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with Ethernet/LAN

You can connect your printer using an Ethernet cable and an iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel and bottom panel of the printer.
  2. Load receipt paper.
  3. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  4. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the printer and one to either your router or LAN connection.
  5. Open Shopify POS and then tap the Connectivity Icon icon.
  6. Tap + Add hardware > Receipt Printer.
  7. Follow the steps to select your printer model, depending on whether you're setting up your printer for the first time or if it's already been connected to your network:
    • If you're setting up your printer for the first time, then tap Epson TM-m30III > LAN and follow the set up instructions on screen. Then in the Available network printers section, tap your printer model.
    • If your printer is already connected to your network, then in the Available network printers section, tap your printer model.
  8. Optional: Test which printer you're setting up by tapping Print test receipt.
  9. Reattach the bottom panel and back panel of the printer.

Backup printers

If your default receipt printer disconnects when you select to print a receipt during a checkout flow, such as order or gift card, then a dialog displays on the Shopify POS screen that allows you to select a backup printer to connect to. All paired and unpaired network printers display. Tap Print next to one of the printers in the Paired printers section or tap Connect next to one of the printers in the Available network printers section to select a new default printer.
