Translating your forms

By default, forms are created in your store's primary language. If you've translated your store into other languages, then you can translate your forms to let customers view your form in the same language that they view your store in.

You can add translations when creating a new form, or you can edit an existing form to include translations. To translate a form, you first need to add and publish a language to your store.

Translation methods for forms

There are different methods of translations that you can use for your forms, depending on your preference and the language that you want to translate to:

  • Auto-translate is available for certain supported languages, when your store's primary language is English. With auto-translate, Forms provides auto-translations that you can add to your form.
  • Manual translation allows you to add your own translations for your form. You can create the translations yourself or use a third-party translations tool, and then enter them into your form manually. You can add translations for any of the supported languages to your form manually.

Supported languages for form translations

When a language is supported for auto-translation, Forms can automatically translate your form content. If your store's primary language isn't English, the language isn't supported for auto-translation, or you prefer to add your own translations, then you can translate your form manually.

The following table displays which languages are supported and their available translation methods. If a language isn't included in the table, then it can't be added to a form.

Translating a new form

If you're creating a new form and want to include translations, then follow the steps to create a new popup or inline form, which include instructions for adding translations.

Translate an existing form

You can add translations to a form that you've already created in your primary language.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Forms.

  2. Click the form that you want to edit.

  3. In the Languages section of your form, do either of the following:

    • If you've already published additional languages to your store and they display in the Published section, then proceed to the next step.
    • If no available languages display in the Published or Unpublished section, then you first need to add a new language to your store:
      1. Click language settings.
      2. On the Languages page, click Add a language.
      3. Select a language from the drop-down menu, and then assign it to a domain.
      4. Click Done.
      5. Click <-- Forms to return to Forms, and then open the form that you want to continue editing.
  4. Depending on your preference and the translation method that's available, do either of the following:

    • Use auto-translate:
      1. Click Translate next to the language that you want to translate. If you have more than one language that you want to translate to, then you can select Auto-translate all.
      2. Click Review to preview your translations. During review, you can discard or edit any automatically translated fields.
      3. Click Save.
    • Add your own translations manually:
      1. Click Translate next to the language that you want to translate.
      2. In each field in the column of the language you want to translate to, add your translation.
      3. Click Save.
