Considerations for using Managed Markets

Before you activate and start using Managed Markets, review the following considerations.

Managed Markets country requirements

  • Managed Markets doesn't work in some customers' countries. For more information, refer to Incompatible countries.
  • Managed Markets requires prepaid duties on orders that are sent to Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and any country that's a part of the European Union. For other regions, you can turn duties collection per region on or off, but when turned off Managed Markets can't guarantee duties collection.
  • It's your responsibility to ensure that your products have accurate countries of origin.
  • Shopify Protect for Managed Markets is available only for stores in the United States.

Managed Markets feature limitations

  • Managed Markets doesn't support redirects at checkout.
  • Managed Markets doesn't support subscriptions. Subscriptions work only for domestic orders.
  • Managed Markets and the Global-e app can't be used at the same time.
  • Managed Markets doesn't support multiple business entities in a single store.
  • Managed Markets isn't compatible with Shopify Collabs.
  • B2B orders aren't supported by Managed Markets. You need to act as your own merchant of record for B2B orders.

Customer requirements and bundles

  • Managed Markets orders require your customer's phone number. A phone number is collected at checkout for Managed Markets orders.
  • Managed Markets is compatible with bundles created with Shopify Bundles, where multiple SKUs are combined to create a single product. Managed Markets isn't compatible with manual bundles that are created as a single product and added together as a single line item. Accurate customs forms can't be generated for manual bundles.

Customizations and free orders

EU right of withdrawal in Managed Markets

Managed Markets automatically applies compliant cancellation and return policies to orders from customers in the European Union. Managed Markets activates these policies, but the following are still your responsibility:

  • Responding to customer return and cancellation requests.
  • Purchasing return shipping labels.
  • Managing the cost of returns.

Managed Markets doesn't support product-level exemptions from the EU right of withdrawal. All Managed Markets orders into the EU are subject to the same cancellation and return policies.

If you already use a compliant third-party solution, then you can deactivate the Managed Markets right of withdrawal feature and manage your EU compliance independently. This setting is in your admin at Settings > Customer accounts, and requires you to agree to use your own solution for returns and cancellations for Managed Markets in the European Union.

If you don't want to use Managed Markets cancellation and return policies or a compliant third-party solution, then you can deactivate Managed Markets for markets that include EU countries.
