Deactivate Managed Markets

If you no longer want to use Managed Markets, you can deactivate it either for a specific market or for your entire store. Before you begin, review what changes after you deactivate Managed Markets. Some changes, such as losing the ability to edit existing orders, can't be reversed.

Deactivate Managed Markets for a specific market

You can remove Managed Markets as the merchant of record for an individual market while keeping it active for your other markets. This lets you self-manage a particular market without affecting the rest of your store's international setup.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Markets.

  2. Click the market that you want to deactivate Managed Markets for.

  3. In the Shopify Managed Markets section, click the toggle to turn it off. The toggle will be in the on position if Managed Markets is currently active for that market.

Managed Markets is deactivated for that market only. Your other markets that use Managed Markets are not affected.

Deactivate Managed Markets for your store

You can deactivate Managed Markets for your entire store, removing it from all markets that currently use it.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Markets.

  2. Click Managed Markets.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Turn off.

  4. Select a reason for deactivating Managed Markets, then click Next.

  5. Click Turn off Managed Markets to confirm.

What changes after you deactivate Managed Markets

Before you remove Managed Markets, make sure you review the following information:

  • Merchant of record: Markets that you deactivate will no longer use Managed Markets as a merchant of record. You become responsible for tax compliance and regulatory requirements in those markets.
  • Shipping rates: Shipping rates that are exclusive to Managed Markets will no longer be available for the affected markets. In countries or regions that don't have other rates configured, carrier-calculated rates will be added automatically. Review your shipping rates after deactivating Managed Markets to make sure your customers see accurate options at checkout.
  • Duties and import taxes: Managed Markets will no longer calculate duties and import taxes for affected markets. If you want to continue collecting duties and import tax at checkout, make sure you set up Shopify's Duties and import taxes feature once you turn off Managed Markets.
  • Existing orders: Orders placed while Managed Markets was active still need to be fulfilled through Managed Markets. You can't edit these orders after you turn off Managed Markets, so make any changes that you need, such as to the shipping address or the line items, before you deactivate. Properly fulfill or cancel any remaining orders, before or after you turn off Managed Markets. You'll continue to receive payouts for these orders once they ship.
