Managing recipients in Shopify Balance

A recipient is an individual or a business that you send money to from your Shopify Balance account. A recipient stores bank details and delivery methods, so you don't need to enter them again for a later transfer. After you add a recipient, you can send money to them by bank transfer or wire.

You can also save your own bank account details as a recipient and send money to yourself. If your bank isn't available on Plaid, a third-party bank connection service, then this is how you move funds from your Shopify Balance account to that bank.

You can manage recipients in your Shopify admin or in the Shopify Balance mobile app.

Add a recipient in Shopify Balance

Before you can send money to a recipient, you need to add the recipient's details to your Shopify Balance account. Have the recipient's routing number and account number ready. If you're adding a wire account, then you also need the recipient's address.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. Click More actions, and then click Recipients.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Select Individual or Business.

  5. Enter a legal name and a nickname for the recipient, and then click Save.

  6. In the Accounts section, click Add details.

  7. Select the delivery method that you want to add:

    • For a bank transfer, select Bank transfers (ACH).
