Managing your Shopify Balance account

From your Shopify Balance home page, you can manage multiple Shopify Balance accounts, view transactions, and transfer funds.

Accessing your Shopify Balance account details

From the Balance home page, you can click an account to access the following detailed account information:

  • view statements
  • Shopify Balance card associated with the account
  • cashback rewards, if applicable

You can also transfer funds from your account details page.

Creating multiple Shopify Balance accounts

After you have set up your account, you can manage your account from the Shopify Balance page. You can create up to 5 additional accounts for your Shopify Balance. Learn more about multiple accounts with Shopify Balance.

Integration with third-party apps

To connect your Shopify Balance account to a third-party app, you must activate two-step authentication.

Through integration with Plaid, you can connect your Shopify Balance account to third-party apps, such as Venmo, Wise, Freshbooks, Bench and more. This integration allows you to perform various tasks, such as like sending money, making direct payments to vendors, tracking expenses, and syncing Shopify Balance with preferred accounting software. Steps:

  1. Log in to the third-party app and follow the steps to set up a payment method.
  2. Select to add a bank and to instantly verify your account by logging in.
  3. Select Shopify Balance account.
  4. From the login screen, log in to your Shopify store.
  5. In the third-party app, complete the steps to connect your account.

Activate low balance alerts

You can activate low balance alerts to receive email notifications when your account balance falls below a set threshold. By default, the alert triggers when the balance hits $100 USD. These alerts are available only for the main account. You can access low balance settings only from your main Shopify Balance account.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.

  2. Click Main.

  3. On the Shopify Balance main account page, click Account settings.

  4. Under Notifications, click the toggle to activate or deactivate low balance alerts.

  5. Optional: Click Change amount to change the account balance value that will trigger a low balance alert.

Account restrictions for suspicious activity

If a suspicious money movement is detected on your Shopify Balance account, then you receive a notification in your Shopify admin that prompts you to verify your identity. You can't do the following actions until you verify your identity:

  • Move money
  • Create cards
  • Access virtual card details

Physical cards remain active.

Securing your Shopify Balance account

If your Shopify account has been compromised and you use Shopify Balance, then you must take immediate action to protect your finances and report fraudulent activity.

You can dispute fraudulent Shopify Balance card transactions at any time. You can dispute transactions yourself in your Shopify admin only for transactions processed in the last 110 days. For older transactions, contact Shopify Support.

Steps:

  1. Review your Shopify Balance account for any unauthorized activity, such as unauthorized transactions, transfers, and card activity.
  2. If you have a Shopify Balance card, then take immediate action to lock your Shopify Balance card.
  3. If you identify unauthorized Balance card transactions, then you can dispute fraudulent Shopify Balance card transactions from your Shopify admin.
  4. If you find unauthorized Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers from your Balance account, then contact Shopify Support to dispute ACH transfer transactions immediately.
  5. Verify that the bank account connected to your Shopify Balance account hasn't been changed without authorization. Review the steps for editing bank account information for more details.

To ensure your account is secure and prevent fraudulent activity, complete the account security setup.

Examples of fraudulent activity

The following types of activity might indicate that your Shopify Balance account has been compromised:

  • Unauthorized card transactions: Unauthorized purchases or payments made with your Balance card.
  • Unauthorized ACH transfers: Money moving from your Balance account to unrecognized external bank accounts.
  • Unauthorized payout destination changes: Unauthorized changes to your Shopify Payments payout destination from Balance to another account.
  • Unauthorized transfer settings changes: Unauthorized addition or modification of external bank accounts used for Balance transfers.

Rewards

You can view year to date rewards that you earned from your Shopify Balance transactions. You can view earnings rate and cashback rewards, and click View more awards to view a full list of related transactions. On the View more rewards page you can view eligible cashback categories.
