Considerations for using login services
Review the following considerations for using login services:
- Eligibility for login services is based on your region and account with the login service.
- Some information is shared with the login service to access the service. The information shared is based on the login service that you use. For example, if you select WhatsApp, then your phone number is shared with WhatsApp. Your Shopify business data or store details aren't shared.
- You must provide an email address. Email is used for account recovery and for important communications.
- If your account already has another external login service connected, then you might not be able to connect a second login service.
Considerations for using WhatsApp
Review the following WhatsApp considerations:
- You can connect either your WhatsApp account or WhatsApp Business account.
- By providing your WhatsApp number, you agree to receive Shopify messages through WhatsApp. These might include account verification messages, important account updates, admin messages, and marketing messages where applicable. Most important communications are also sent to the email address on your account. You can reply STOP to any Shopify message on WhatsApp to unsubscribe from WhatsApp messages. After you opt out, Shopify communications are sent to the email address instead.
- A WhatsApp number can only be linked to one Shopify account at a time. That Shopify account can own or access multiple stores, so you can still use one account to manage more than one store.
- Shopify doesn’t charge you to receive a WhatsApp verification code. Standard data or internet charges from your carrier might apply when you use WhatsApp.

Troubleshooting WhatsApp login service
Troubleshoot WhatsApp sign-in is unavailable or Shopify couldn’t verify my identity
If you received an error that WhatsApp sign-in is unavailable or Shopify couldn’t verify my identity, then you can try again later, or log in with your email address instead. Shopify runs security reviews before completing a WhatsApp login. If the review doesn’t pass or doesn’t complete in time, then your WhatsApp login might be blocked as a precaution. If the issue continues, then contact Shopify Support.
Troubleshoot WhatsApp verification code
If you’re having issues receiving the WhatsApp verification code, then try these troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm you entered the correct phone number and country code in your Shopify account. If you've entered the wrong number, then try disconnecting and setting up the login service again.
- After you've verified the phone number and country code in your Shopify account, make sure your phone number is active on WhatsApp.
- Wait for the resend countdown, and then request a new code. If you still don’t receive a code, then use email signup or login instead.
