Searching for products in Shopify POS

You can search for products in Shopify POS by using the global search bar or by tapping the Product icon. From the search results, you can browse products, view product details, and add a product to the cart.

You can search your products by the following attributes:

  • Barcode
  • Variant name
  • Product title
  • SKU
  • Tags
  • Vendor
  • Description

Your search term doesn't need to exactly match the product attributes that you're searching for. You can search using partial words, or words that aren't in the correct order. The products that have the best match to the attributes in your search are displayed in the search results. If you search for and select a product with multiple variants, then your search term remains in the search bar and the variant list displays only the variants that match your search.

Products must have their publishing settings set to available for the Point of Sale sales channel for those products to display in Shopify POS. You can set the availability for your products from your Shopify admin.

The global search bar lets you search your entire store on Shopify POS, including products. When you use the global search bar, the POS screen splits and the cart remains visible.

Steps:

  1. From Shopify POS, tap the Search icon.

  2. In the search bar, type the product name or another attribute, or scroll through your list of products. If you've typed an attribute into the search bar, then the search results display the match reasons, so you know which attribute matches your search.

  3. In the search results, tap the product's name to view the product details or tap the Plus icon to add the product to the cart.

You can open your product list from the Shopify POS navigation bar.

Steps:

  1. From Shopify POS, tap the Product icon.

  2. Tap the Search icon to open the search bar.

  3. In the search bar, enter the product name or another attribute, or scroll through your list of products. If you've typed an attribute into the search bar, then the search results display the match reasons, so you know which attribute matches your search.

  4. In the search results, tap the product's name to view the product details.

Search by scanning barcodes

You can search for products using a barcode scanner or your device's camera scanner. When you scan a variant's barcode, the main product displays in search results. After you select the product, you can choose the specific variant from the variant list.

Steps:

Barcode scanner
  1. Scan the product's barcode with your barcode scanner.
  2. Select the product to add it to the cart or select the image to view product details.
Camera scanner
  1. In the global search bar, tap the Barcode icon.
  2. To scan and search for the product, place a barcode in front of the camera.
  3. Select the product to add it to the cart or select the image to view product details.

Sort products

You can sort the Products screen by date or alphabetically. On the Products screen under Sort by, select Recently added, Product title (A to Z), or Product title (Z to A). The list of products will update.

View a product's details

To view a product's details, tap the name of the product in the search results.

The product details include the following information:

  • product image
  • compare-at price, if applicable
  • current location's inventory levels
  • inventory levels at your other locations, if applicable
  • inventory levels at your custom fulfillment service or third-party shipping service, if applicable
  • description
  • product SKU
  • product vendor
  • product type

To view all of the product details, you might need to scroll down.

To view a larger version of the product image, tap on the image.

When the image is expanded, you can swipe to view all variants of the product.
