Requirements for tracking inventory in Shopify POS

Review the following requirements to ensure your inventory tracking functions correctly across your retail locations:

Tracking Shopify POS inventory

You can search products in Shopify POS and then track inventory on the product details screen.

The product details screen displays inventory for the following categories:

  • Available
  • Committed (inventory added to Unfulfilled orders)
  • Unavailable
  • Incoming from other locations

You can also track inventory in your Shopify admin on the Product page.

If you need to receive direct notifications of low stock levels, then you can install an inventory alert app from the Shopify App Store.

Adjusting Shopify POS inventory

You can adjust inventory quantities on the Inventory page in your Shopify admin. You can also adjust inventory quantities in bulk using the bulk editor, or with CSV file exports and imports.

To adjust inventory quantities directly on Shopify POS you can use the Quick count POS UI extension.

Consider updating your inventory quantities when your retail outlets are closed and when you're not having big online sales events. You can do a physical count of your inventory at each location and record that data to ensure your inventory quantities are correct in Shopify.

Managing inventory at more than one location

If you use Shopify POS at more than one address, then you can select the selling location from your Shopify POS device. Only the products at your device's selected location are available to add to the Shopify POS cart.

You need to select the correct location to apply the right taxes and track orders by location. When you sell or restock a product on Shopify POS, the inventory count updates for that location.
