Setting up the Star Micronics TSP143IIIW Wi-Fi receipt printer lets you print receipts for in-person sales through Shopify POS. Follow the instructions on this page to connect your printer to a power supply, configure it for your Wi-Fi network, and complete setup so you can start printing receipts from your POS device.

Plug in your Star Micronics TSP143IIIW Wi-Fi receipt printer

Connect your printer to the power supply.

Steps:

1. Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your receipt printer.
2. Plug the other end of the cable into a power outlet and turn the printer on.

If paper is loaded, then a diagnostic report prints.

Install and setup your Star Micronics TSP143IIIW Wi-Fi receipt printer

Follow these steps to install and set up your receipt printer.

Steps:

1. Connect your printer to the power supply.
2. If your printer has already been set up for another Wi-Fi network, then initialize the printer's network settings.
3. Ensure that your printer and the POS device are both on a 2.4 GHz network. The printer can only connect to a 2.4 GHz network.
4. In Shopify POS, tap the icon.
5. Tap + Add hardware > Receipt Printer.
6. Follow the steps to select your printer model, depending on whether you're setting up your printer for the first time or if it's already been connected to your network:
   • If you're setting up your printer for the first time, then tap Star Micronics > Wi-Fi and follow the set up instructions on screen. Then in the Available network printers section, tap your printer model.
   • If your printer is already connected to your network, then in the Available network printers section, tap your printer model.
7. Optional: Test which printer you're setting up by tapping Print test receipt.
8. In your POS device's Wi-Fi settings, connect to the receipt printer.
9. Return to Shopify POS and then log back into the app. When Shopify POS finds the printer, tap Complete Wi-Fi details. If this option doesn't display, then you might need to repeat steps 1 to 9.
10. Tap Select to choose the type of network security that your Wi-Fi network uses, and then tap Save.
11. Enter the password for your Wi-Fi network, and then tap Done.
12. Tap Connect, and then tap Done.

Confirm that your printer displays as connected in the Receipt Printers section.

After connecting your printer, don't forget to:

• Set it as the default printer (optional)
• Print a test receipt
• Test the connection to the cash drawer (if applicable)

Initialize the Star Micronics TSP143IIIW Wi-Fi receipt printer network settings

If you want to connect your printer to a new Wi-Fi network, then initialize the printer's network settings.

When you initialize your printer, the settings are reverted to their defaults. You need to reconfigure the settings that you use, such as the wireless and password settings.

Steps:

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Press and hold the RST button at the same time that you turn the printer on.

   

3. Hold the RST button until the printer resets twice. When the device resets, it makes an internal operation noise.
4. Turn the printer off.

Backup printers

If your default receipt printer disconnects when you select to print a receipt during a checkout flow, such as order or gift card, then a dialog displays on the Shopify POS screen that allows you to select a backup printer to connect to. All paired and unpaired network printers display. Tap Print next to one of the printers in the Paired printers section or tap Connect next to one of the printers in the Available network printers section to select a new default printer.
