Setting up the Socket Mobile 2D scanners
Follow these instructions to pair and connect your Socket Mobile 2D scanner with Shopify POS, so you can scan barcodes and manage products efficiently at checkout.

Pair and connect your 2D scanner with your iPad
As long as the scanner is paired with your device, the scanner connects automatically whenever it's in range.
Steps:
- Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on in your iPad settings.
- From Shopify POS, tap the
icon.
- Tap + Add hardware, and then tap Scanner.
- When the Activate pairing mode dialog displays, scan the barcode. The scanner beeps three times when pairing mode activates.
- Tap View available devices.
- In the Select An Accessory dialog, tap the Socket Mobile scanner. It might take a few moments for the scanner to display.
If the setup isn't successful, then unpair the scanner and try again.
Pair with an additional iPad or a different Bluetooth device
You can pair your scanner with another device.
Steps:
- Unpair the scanner.
- Pair your scanner with another iPad, or read the manufacturer's instructions to pair with a different Bluetooth device. Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on the new device.
Unpair your scanner
By default, your scanner tries to connect to the last device it was paired with. If you want to use your scanner with a different Bluetooth device, then you need to unpair the scanner first.
Steps:
- Turn on your scanner.
- Press and hold the scan button. At the same time, press and hold the power button. After the scanner beeps 3 times, release both buttons. Your scanner powers off.
- From Shopify POS, tap the
icon.
- Tap the name of your connected scanner.
- Tap Forget scanner.
- Go to your device's settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Under MY DEVICES, tap the
ⓘbutton beside the Socket scanner. - Tap Forget This Device.
- Tap Forget Device.
Change the Socket Mobile 2D barcode scanner from Application Mode to Keyboard Mode
When setting up a barcode scanner, there are 2 primary methods of Bluetooth connection to determine how data is read and received by the scanner:
- Application Mode: Standard for many apps that use scanners, including Shopify POS. When you scan the barcode for set up, the scanner enters this mode.
- Basic (HID) Mode, also known as Keyboard Mode: If you're using another app, such as Stocky, Application mode might not be supported. To resolve this you need to set the scanner to Keyboard Mode. When in Keyboard mode, the scanner won't scan barcodes into Shopify POS.
Steps:
- Perform a factory reset of the barcode scanner. The scanner will power off.
- Turn the barcode scanner back on.
- Scan the following barcode to set the scanner in Keyboard Mode:
