Setting up the Socket Mobile 1D barcode scanner

You can set up your Socket Mobile 1D barcode scanner to scan barcodes seamlessly with Shopify POS by following the instructions below to pair and connect your scanner for in-person sales. Setting up your barcode scanner can speed up checkout by letting you quickly add products to orders without manual searching.

Pair and connect your Socket Mobile 1D barcode scanner

As long as the scanner remains paired with the device, then the scanner connects automatically whenever it's in range.

Steps:

  1. Go to your device settings and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Turn on the barcode scanner by holding down the power button until the scanner beeps.
  3. From Shopify POS, tap Connectivity Icon.
  4. Tap Barcode scanner.
  5. When the Activate pairing mode dialog displays, scan the barcode. When the scanner beeps three times pairing mode is activated.
  6. Tap View available devices.
  7. In the Select An Accessory dialog, tap the Socket Mobile scanner. It might take a few moments for the scanner to display.

If the setup isn't successful, then unpair the scanner and try again.

Pair with another iPad, iPhone, or a different Bluetooth device

You can pair your scanner with another iPad, iPhone, or Bluetooth device.

Steps:

  1. Make sure that bluetooth is activated on the new device.
  2. Unpair the barcode scanner.
  3. Pair your scanner with another iPad or iPhone.

Unpair your Socket Mobile 1D barcode scanner

By default, your barcode scanner tries to connect to the last device that it was paired with. If you want to use your barcode scanner with a different Bluetooth device, then you need to unpair the scanner and device first.

Steps:

  1. Turn on your barcode scanner.
  2. Press and hold the scan button. At the same time, press and hold the power button. After the scanner beeps 3 times, release both buttons. Your barcode scanner powers off.
  3. From Shopify POS, tap Connectivity Icon.
  4. Tap the name of your connected barcode scanner.
  5. Tap Forget scanner.
  6. Go to your device's settings.
  7. Tap Bluetooth.
  8. Under MY DEVICES, tap the button beside the Socket barcode scanner.
  9. Tap Forget This Device.
  10. Tap Forget Device.

Change the Socket Mobile 1D barcode scanner from Application Mode to Keyboard Mode

When setting up a barcode scanner, there are 2 primary methods of Bluetooth connection to determine how data is read and received by the scanner:

  • Basic (HID) Mode, also known as Keyboard Mode.
  • Application Mode.

When you connect your scanner to Shopify POS, the barcode that you scan puts the scanner into Application Mode. Application Mode is standard for many apps that use these scanners, including Shopify POS. However, Application Mode might not be compatible when you use the scanner with another tool or app, such as Stocky. To resolve this, the scanner needs to be set to Keyboard Mode.

Steps:

  1. Perform a factory reset of the barcode scanner. The scanner will power off.
  2. Turn the barcode scanner back on.
  3. Scan the following barcode to set the scanner in Keyboard Mode:
