Pricing and billing for SMS marketing campaigns
When you send SMS campaigns using Shopify Messaging, you're charged per message and billed monthly. In addition to the per-message cost, other charges apply depending on your region and the types of messages you send. If you send SMS marketing messages to the United States or Canada, then a monthly fee applies for your toll-free number.

Per-SMS message charges
You're charged based on the number of SMS marketing messages sent to each recipient. For example, if you're located in Denmark and you send 1,000 messages to recipients in Denmark, then you're billed $80 USD.
If you create an SMS campaign that exceeds the character limits for a single message, then the message displays to the customer as one continuous message, but you're charged for multiple messages per recipient. For example, if your campaign is split into 2 messages for 100 recipients, then you're charged for 200 messages.
Automated message fees
In addition to your marketing campaigns, you're charged per SMS message for the following types of automated messages:
- Confirmation messages sent to new subscribers
- Double opt-in messages, when activated
- Replies to keywords from customers sending requests, such as "INFO" or "HELP"
Test messages
You can send up to 25 test messages per week for free. If you test a campaign that's sent in multiple messages, then each message counts towards your free test messages.

The following table lists the price per SMS message in each supported region.

Toll-free number fees
A $2.15 USD monthly charge applies to each approved toll-free number used for SMS marketing in the United States and Canada. Toll-free number billing starts after your toll-free number is activated.
If you no longer want your toll-free number, then remove Canada and the United States from your targeted SMS countries.
Setting and managing your SMS automation spending threshold
Before you create SMS marketing automations, you can set a monthly spending threshold alert to get an email notification when your SMS automation costs reach that set amount. The threshold applies to all of your SMS automations combined, so you can't set a separate threshold per automation. Your threshold resets each month and stays the same amount unless you change or remove it.
When you reach your spending threshold, you receive an email notification to the account owner email address for your store, and a warning is displayed in Shopify Messaging settings. Setting a spending threshold alert doesn't prevent your account from being billed when your costs exceed the threshold. The spending threshold alert applies only to your SMS marketing automations. Your other Shopify Messaging SMS campaigns aren't considered when calculating this monthly cost.
You can monitor your SMS spending in your Shopify Messaging SMS settings.
