Managing collection sources and conditions

Collection sources are where your collection items come from. Sources can be your main product list, product variants, other existing collections, or app sources.

You can change the sources for your collections, edit the conditions that you set in Products and Variants sources, and remove or change manually added products or variants.

Remove a product or variant selection condition

You can remove a condition from a Products or Variants source. Removing a condition updates which products or variants are included in the collection.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to remove a product or variant selection condition from.

  3. In a Products source or a Variants source, hover over the condition that you want to remove.

  4. Click the delete icon.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to remove a product or variant selection condition from.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap a Products source or a Variants source.

  5. For the condition that you want to remove, tap the delete icon.

  6. Tap Delete.

  7. On the Products or Variants page, tap Save or ✓.

  8. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Change a product or variant selection condition

You can adjust the conditions in a Products or Variants source to refine which products or variants are matched to a collection. Changing a condition updates the collection based on your new selections.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to change a product or variant selection condition for.

  3. In a Products source or a Variants source, for the condition that you want to change:

    • Click the drop-down menus and make your new selections.
    • Depending on the selections that you make, enter the text or value that products or variants should be matched with, or select one or more options that products or variants should be matched with.

  4. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to change a product or variant selection condition for.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap a Products source or a Variants source.

  5. For the condition that you want to change:

    • Tap the product attribute and Matching criteria drop-down menus and make your new selections.
    • Depending on the selections that you make, enter the text or value that products or variants should be matched with, or select one or more options that products or variants should be matched with.

  6. On the Products or Variants page, tap Save or ✓.

  7. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Remove manually added products or variants

When you add products or variants to a collection, you can remove them later if they no longer belong in the collection. Removing an item takes it out of the collection without deleting the product or variant from your store.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to remove manually added products or variants from.

  3. In the Collection items section, hover over a manually added product or variant that you want to remove from the collection.

  4. Click x for the product or variant that you want to remove.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to remove manually added products or variants from.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap a Products source or a Variants source that you want to remove manually added items from.

  5. In the Include section, tap Add products or Add variants.

  6. Deselect the products or variants that you want to remove from the collection, and then tap Save or ✓.

  7. On the Products or Variants page, tap Save or ✓.

  8. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Change manually added products or variants

You can update the products or variants that you added to a collection, so the collection reflects the items that you want to feature. Selecting or deselecting items adjusts what the collection includes.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to change the manually added products or variants for.

  3. In a Products source or a Variants source, click the product icon or the Variants icon.

  4. In the Select products to include or Select variants to include dialog, select or deselect the products or variants that you want to change, and then click Done.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to change the manually added products or variants for.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap a Products source or a Variants source that you want to change the manually added items for.

  5. In the Include section, tap Add products or Add variants.

  6. Select or deselect the products or variants that you want to change, and then tap Save or ✓.

  7. On the Products or Variants page, tap Save or ✓.

  8. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Remove a source from a collection

A collection can contain items from more than one source. If you no longer need a Products, Variants, Collection, or App source in a collection, then you can remove it.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to remove a source from.

  3. Hover over the Products, Variants, Collection, or App source that you want to delete.

  4. Click the delete icon.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to remove a source from.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap the source that you want to remove.

  5. Tap Horizontal menu or Vertical menu, and then tap Delete source.

  6. Tap Delete.

  7. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Change the collection or app in a source

If a collection source contains items from another collection or an app, then you can switch it to a different collection or app. Changing the source updates which items are included in your collection.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Collection or App source, click the current collection or app.

  4. In the dialog, click a different collection, or select a different app and then click Done.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to edit.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap the Collection or App source that you want to edit.

  5. Tap a new collection or app that you want to add.

  6. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.

Remove exclusions from a Products source

A Products source can exclude specific products from a collection. If you want those products to be included again, then you can remove the exclusion from the source.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to remove product exclusions from.

  3. In the relevant Products source, hover over the Exclude entry.

  4. Click the delete icon.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to remove product exclusions from.

  4. In the Add to collection section, tap the Products source that you want to remove exclusions from.

  5. Turn off the Exclude setting.

  6. On the Products page, tap Save or ✓.

  7. On the collection page, tap Save or ✓.
