If you're not sure what business type to pick, then contact Shopify Support for help with selecting the right one.

When providing your documents, ensure that they meet the necessary criteria. Review the following guidelines to ensure compliance:
- Accuracy: Ensure that the information on your documents matches what you've entered in your Shopify Payments account. Update your account to match your documents, if necessary.
- Clarity and legibility: Make sure that your documents are clear and large enough to read. Ensure the entire document is visible in the photograph.
- Completeness: Ensure all the necessary details are visible on your document. Review the acceptable document types listed on this page to understand what details must be included on the document.

Troubleshooting common issues
Before contacting Shopify Support, review the following common onboarding issues and their solutions.
I'm a partnership being asked for a REGON number, but I don't have one
If you're a partnership in Poland being asked for a REGON number, but you don't have one, then you're set up as the incorrect business type. If you're in the process of setting up your Shopify Payments account, then update the business type to unincorporated partnership.
If you've already set up the account and are being asked for a REGON number as part of your verification process, then you can update your business type by going to Settings > General. Click the 3 dots beside your business details, and then click "edit". If you have any difficulty with updating your business type, contact Shopify Support for assistance.
My document was rejected.
Ensure the information on your account matches your document exactly, and update your account if needed. If your documents are still being rejected, then refer to the following sections on this page:
- Acceptable document types: Accepted documents and required details. Screenshots, printouts, and registry screenshots aren't accepted.
- Ensuring documentation compliance: Requirements for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and validity.
My address can't be automatically verified.
For Shopify Payments Poland, if your address can't be automatically verified, then you'll be asked to either complete the selfie process, or to provide a proof of address document.
Completing the selfie process is recommended: The individual who requires verification can click the "selfie" button and then take a photograph of their photo ID, and themselves, in order to verify. This can be done instead of providing a proof of address document.
If you would prefer to provide a document manually, you can do that instead. Proof of address documents must show your full name, home address, and be one of the document types shown here. You should also ensure:
- Ensure the address you entered in your Shopify Payments account matches exactly with the address on your proof of address document.
- Update your information in your account to match your document if necessary.
- Upload a clear photograph of your proof of address document.
- Ensure the document you're uploading shows your own full name. If for example, you have a utility bill in someone else's name, you'll need to provide a different document.
My owner information can't be verified.
For Shopify Payments Poland, you're required to enter your owners so that the names listed match against the owners listed for your business on your government's business registry. We recommend looking up your owner information in the registry and entering the names as exactly shown there. If you have no owners, you must list all of your directors on the account instead.
If you have done so and your ownership or directorship still cannot be verified, we recommend clicking the "sign" button on your verification page to digitally attest that the information you have provided is correct. This process is fast and simple.
If you would prefer you can provide a document confirming who your owners or directors are, instead of using the attestation process. The owner and/or director information that you enter on your Shopify Payments account must match the information on the documentation that you upload. If an owner/director is listed on your documentation, but isn't added to your Shopify Payments account, then you must add that person to your account and assign them the Owner and/or Director role. A list of what types of documents you can provide to verify ownership is available here.
You should make sure the owners and directors on your account are a 1:1 match with your documentation. Do not list extra owners/directors that are not shown on your documents.
My business information isn't being verified.
Shopify banking partners verify your business information by comparing it against government registries in Poland. If your business can't be verified, then check the following details:
- Ensure that your registered business name matches exactly as it appears in government business registries, including letter case, punctuation, and symbols.
- Ensure that your REGON number is correct.
- Ensure that your business address matches the address listed in the government business registry.
If your information still can't be verified, then you might need to provide a business verification document. Ensure that the information on your document matches what you've entered in your Shopify Payments account.
I'm a sole proprietorship. How do I enter my business information and REGON number?
For the purposes of business and identity verification, only the personal information of the owner is required if you're a sole proprietorship. Select the business type "Individual" accordingly.
If you're a sole proprietorship, then don't attempt to sign up as a different business type. You might have difficulty passing verification.
I don't have a REGON number, and I'm not an individual or sole proprietorship.
If you don't have a REGON number, then you can only select unincorporated partnership or unincorporated non-profit as your business type. You must still provide documentation that shows your business is registered as said business type in Poland.
If neither of these business types fits your business, then you should select "Individual" and assign a key decision maker or owner as the account representative.
Frequently asked questions
Review the following frequently asked questions about Shopify Payments requirements in Poland.
Why do you need my photo ID and proof of address if I'm a company/partnership/non-profit?
Even if you're entered as a company, partnership, or non-profit, our banking partners are required by regulatory laws in Poland to verify the identities of the people associated with the business, including their identities and where they're located.
I'm a citizen of Poland, but I don't currently live there. Can I use Shopify Payments Poland?
If your business type is individual, then you're required to live in Poland to be eligible for Shopify Payments Poland. If you don't currently live in Poland, then you should instead create a Shopify Payments account for the region you do live in.
Update your store address to your current location. If your location is eligible for Shopify Payments, then you can create a Shopify Payments account for that region instead.
If you're a type of partnership, company, or non-profit, then you're not required to personally live in Poland, but your business is required to be registered there and have a Polish business address. If you need help, then contact Shopify Support.
I'm a publicly traded company in Poland. Which business type should I pick?
You should pick private corporation. For the purposes of business verification, the process for public and privately owned companies is identical. You can skip past the section of the account setup form that requests that you add owners. You are not required to list any beneficial owners, if you have none.
If you're a publicly traded company in Poland, you've already set up the Shopify Payments account, and now you are being asked for ownership information as part of your verification process, update your ownership details to reflect that you have no owners. Remove the "owner" role from any people on file, and instead ensure all your directors are listed on the account and have the "director" role assigned.
You may be asked to confirm that the listed directorship is correct. If you can confirm it looks correct, click the "sign" button to digitally attest to the information on file.
If you have any difficulty with this process, contact Shopify Support for assistance.
How do I update my Shopify Payments account information?
If you are actively being asked to complete account verification, then you can make any updates to your information from in the verification page along with submitting any documents that are being requested.
Outside of the verification process, the account owner of the store can update these details through Settings > General > Business Details. Click the three dots beside your business entity and then click "edit" to update that business's information, including business type.
Note that any changes you make here are automatically sent to our banking partners for review, and the new information is re-run through their verification process. It's possible the changes automatically re-verify, but you may also be asked for supporting documents.
If you have any difficulty with this process, contact Shopify Support for assistance.
What happens if I miss my verification deadline?
You will see a temporary pause on your payouts until the verification procedure is completed. After the first deadline is hit and payouts are temporarily paused, you may see a second deadline indicating when your ability to accept orders with Shopify Payments will be temporarily paused.
All of these pauses are temporary, and will be automatically lifted once you complete verification. Reference your admin page for your deadlines.
Starting in June of 2026, brand new Shopify Payments Poland accounts have 90 days from first order processed to complete verification. If 90 days pass, any orders you processed using Shopify Payments may be automatically refunded.
This only applies to European countries, and it only applies to brand new accounts created on or after June of 2026. If this is applicable to you, warnings will tell your account owner when they can expect the refunds to process.
