Requirements for using Shopify Payments in Czechia
Before you use Shopify Payments in Czechia, ensure that you meet the following requirements:
- Eligible business types: Certain types of businesses and services aren't permitted to use Shopify Payments. To determine whether your business is eligible, refer to the list of prohibited business types for Czechia in the Shopify Payments Terms of Service.
- Bank account requirements: Your bank account must meet the following requirements before you can connect it to Shopify Payments:
- The bank account must be in EUR currency or if the bank account is based in Czechia, then it can be in CZK currency.
- The bank account must be eligible for Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) transfers.
- The bank account must have an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) that starts with any of the following country codes: AT, BE, BG, CH, CY, CZ, DE, DK, EE, ES, FI, FR, GB, GI, GR, HR, HU, IE, IT, LT, LU, LV, MT, NL, NO, PL, PT, RO, SE, or SI.
- Enter your full IBAN with no spaces. A Czech IBAN is 24 characters (for example, CZ6508000000192000145399); length varies by country. Use an online IBAN validator to confirm your IBAN format before entering it.
Unsupported bank account types
Certain bank account types aren't compatible with Shopify Payments. The following account types aren't supported:
- Checking accounts that accept only wire transfers: These accounts don't work with Shopify Payments.
- Savings accounts: Savings accounts can't be used for Shopify Payments payouts.
- Flex-currency accounts: Accounts that support multiple currencies simultaneously aren't supported.
- Money transfer services: Services that mimic bank accounts, such as some fintech platforms, can't be used with Shopify Payments.
Although non-Shopify virtual accounts are supported, you can experience more payout failures with these accounts.
To confirm whether your account can accept the transfer type listed for your region, contact your bank.
Purpose of collecting information
Shopify and its banking partners are required to collect and verify information about you and your business to comply with regulations in Czechia that are designed to prevent financial crimes. As local rules and regulations evolve, you might be contacted by Shopify and its banking partners to provide additional information throughout the lifespan of your Shopify Payments account.
The information that's collected is used to confirm the identity of the business, the identities of individuals linked to the business, and the nature of the relationship between the two.
Shopify never physically mails documentation to you. Any important documents or communications are emailed, or made digitally available to the store owner in the Settings > Users page of your Shopify admin.
Review Shopify's Privacy Policy to learn about how your information is kept confidential and safe.
Required personal and business information for activating Shopify Payments in Czechia
Ensure that you correctly identify your business type because it determines the information that you need to provide.
If you haven't registered with any government agency, or you have registered but run the business as a sole proprietorship (including OSVČ, sole traders, and individual entrepreneurs), then select the Individual / Sole Proprietorship business type.
If you have registered your business and have a Company Identification Number (IČO), then select your business type based on the following guidance:
- Partnerships with company identification numbers (VOS, KS) must select the registered partnership business type.
- Non-profit organizations with company identification numbers must select the registered non-profit business type.
- All other businesses with company identification numbers must select the registered corporation business type. Common examples are SRO, AS, or družstvo.
If you have a registered business, but don't have a company identification number, then select your business type based on the following guidance:
- Partnerships without company identification numbers must select the unregistered partnership business type.
- Non-profit organizations and charities who don't have company identification numbers must select the unregistered non-profit business type.
If you're not sure what business type to pick, then contact Shopify Support for help with selecting the right one.
Individuals / Sole proprietorships
Individuals are single owner businesses that haven't registered with the government and are doing business privately. Sole proprietorships are single owner businesses who are registered with the government under their personal information. Both are businesses that are owned and controlled by one individual living in Czechia, this includes freelancers and self-employed small business operators.
These business types are treated the same way and must provide the same information. Individuals and sole proprietorships must provide:
- Legal first and last name: Your full legal name as it appears on government-issued documentation.
- Date of birth: Your birth date.
- Email address: A valid and active email address.
- Phone number: A valid and active phone number.
- Residential address in Czechia: Your home address, matching your documentation.
If your information can't be verified automatically, then you'll receive a request to verify your identity. If any of your information, such as your name, date of birth, or home address, is incorrect, then you should update your account information.
If the information is correct and you still receive a request for verification, then you can resolve the request by completing either one of the following tasks:
- Confirm your identity by taking a selfie with a valid photo ID.
- Upload separate proof of identity and proof of address documents in your Shopify admin.
- The information on your documents must match the information on your account exactly. Update your account information to match your documents, if needed.
Registered corporations (SRO, AS, družstvo)
A registered corporation is a business whose equity is divided into shares, owned by shareholders. A corporation is considered its own legal entity, separate from the people who run it. They typically also have a board of directors.
Registered corporations must assign either a beneficial owner or an executive with decision-making power as their account representative. The account representative must provide the following information:
- Legal first and last name: Your full legal name as it appears on government-issued documentation.
- Date of birth: Your birth date.
- Email address: A valid and active email address.
- Phone number: A valid and active phone number.
- Residential address: Your home address, matching your documentation.
- Job title: The job title you hold with the business.
- Equity: If applicable, the equity percentage you own of the business.

- VAT number: Your VAT registration number, if applicable.
- Business phone number: An active contact phone number for the business.
- Business address: The official registered address of the business as shown in the commercial registry.
Shopify banking partners verify your information by comparing it against government registries in Czechia. Pay careful attention to case, punctuation, and symbols.
If the information that you provide about the business can't be verified, then you might need to provide a business verification document. When providing this document, ensure that the registered name, company identification number, and business address listed in your account match exactly with the information on the document. Update the information in your account to match the document if necessary. Review the list of acceptable business documents.
You must additionally list any other people who are beneficial owners of the company. Ensure that you enter their names, dates of birth, and home addresses exactly as shown on their government documents. If their identities can't be verified automatically, then they might need to provide photo ID or proof of address.
The owners that you provide must match against the owners listed for your business in your government's business registry. If a mismatch is detected, then you'll be asked to either complete the attestation process by clicking the Sign button, or provide a proof of ownership document. Signing the attestation is the quickest way to resolve the mismatch, but if you'd prefer to submit a document, then ensure the names of the owners listed on your account match exactly with the owners listed on your document. Update the information on your account to match your document, if necessary. If your business is owned by a holding company (either wholly or partly), then sign the attestation to complete verification.
If your business has no beneficial owners, then you'll be asked to either sign an attestation or provide a document confirming your directors instead. If you'd prefer to submit a document, then ensure the names of the directors listed in your account match exactly with the directors listed on your document. Update the information on your account to match your document, if necessary.

Unregistered partnerships
An unregistered partnership is a business owned by at least two partners, who haven't registered for a company identification number, but who have a partnership agreement. The owners are considered the legal entity in this case, and the business is not a separate entity.

- Zakladatelský dokument (Articles of Incorporation)
- Výpis z obchodního rejstříku (Commercial register extract)
Every beneficial owner listed in your documentation must also be listed in your Shopify Payments account and assigned the role of Owner. A beneficial owner is defined as someone who owns 25% or more of the business equity. Update the information in your account to match the document if necessary.
If your business doesn't have any beneficial owners, then you're required to verify your directors instead. In these cases, the same list of documents above are eligible. Each director listed in your documentation must also be listed in your Shopify Payments account and assigned the role of Director. Update the information in your account to match the document if necessary.
If your business is owned by a holding company, then complete the digital attestation process instead by pressing the Sign button.
Ensuring documentation compliance
When providing your documents, ensure that they meet the necessary criteria. Review the following guidelines to ensure compliance:
- Accuracy: Ensure that the information on your documents matches what you've entered in your Shopify Payments account. Update your account to match your documents, if necessary.
- Clarity and legibility: Make sure that your documents are clear and large enough to read. Ensure the entire document is visible in the photograph.
- Completeness: Ensure all the necessary details are visible on your document. Review the acceptable document types listed on this page to understand what details must be included on the document.
- Original documentation: Take an original photograph of your document using a camera. Don't photocopy, scan, or screenshot your documents. Don't paste photos of documents into other documents. Don't take photos of computer screens or printouts.
- If your document was issued to you digitally, then provide the PDF file with all pages as it was originally given to you, with no alterations.
- Validity: Ensure photo IDs aren't expired and that proof of address is recently issued. If providing proof of business registration, then your business should still be actively registered and in good standing.
Troubleshooting common issues
Before contacting Shopify Support, review these common onboarding issues and their solutions.
My document was rejected.
Make sure the information on your account matches the information in the document you're submitting, and update your account to match your documentation if needed. If your documents are still being rejected, then refer to the following sections on this page:
- Acceptable document types: Which documents are accepted and what details they must include. Screenshots, printouts of online searches, and registry screenshots are not accepted.
- Ensuring documentation compliance: Requirements for accuracy, clarity, completeness, original documentation, and validity.
My bank account information isn't working.
Make sure your account meets the requirements and that you're using a supported account type. If your payout fails, then verify that you've entered your account information in the correct format. Refer to the following section on this page:
- Requirements for using Shopify Payments in Czechia: Bank account requirements, including supported currencies (EUR or CZK), SEPA eligibility, IBAN country codes, and account types that aren't supported.
My payouts are on hold after updating my bank account.
When you update your bank account details in Shopify Payments, an automatic 3-5 business day security hold is placed on new payouts. This is a security feature to protect your account from unauthorized changes.
During this period:
- Any payouts already scheduled at the time of the update will be sent to your previous bank account.
- New payouts created after the update will be held for 3-5 business days.
- After the hold ends, new payouts start processing to your updated bank account according to your payout schedule.
This hold can't be removed and applies to all bank account changes.
My business information isn't being verified.
When entering your business information, ensure that your business name, company identification number, and business address match exactly as they appear in the commercial court register. This includes:
- Correct letter case (uppercase and lowercase)
- Correct punctuation and spacing
- Complete business name as registered
Our banking partners verify your information automatically by comparing it against official registries. Even small differences can cause verification to fail. Ensure the documentation you're submitting shows legal name, company identification number, and business address, and that these details match what is shown on your account. Update your account to match your document, if necessary.
My address can't be automatically verified.
For Shopify Payments Czechia, if your address can't be automatically verified, then you'll be asked to either complete the selfie process or provide a proof of address document.
Completing the selfie process is recommended, and can be done instead of providing a proof of address document. The individual who requires verification can click the Selfie button, and then take a photograph of both their photo ID and themselves to verify.
If you'd prefer to provide a document manually, then you can do that instead. Proof of address documents must show your full name and home address, and must be one of the accepted document types. You should also ensure the following:
- Ensure that the address that you entered in your Shopify Payments account matches exactly with the address on your proof of address document.
- Update your account information to match your document, if necessary.
- Upload a clear photograph of your proof of address document.
- Ensure that the document that you're uploading shows your own full name. For example, if you have a utility bill in someone else's name, then you'll need to provide a different document.
My owner information can't be verified.
For Shopify Payments Czechia, you're required to enter your beneficial owners so that the names listed match against the owners listed for your business in your government's business registry. We recommend that you look up your owner information in the applicable registry, and enter the names exactly as shown there. If you have no beneficial owners, then you must list all of your directors on the account instead.
If you've done so and your ownership or directorship still can't be verified, then we recommend that you click the Sign button on your verification page to digitally attest that the information that you've provided is correct. Signing the attestation is the quickest way to resolve the mismatch.
If you'd prefer, then you can provide a document confirming who your owners or directors are, instead of using the attestation process. The owner and director information that you enter on your Shopify Payments account must match the information on the documentation that you upload. If an owner or director is listed on your documentation, but isn't added to your Shopify Payments account, then you must add that person to your account and assign them the Owner or Director role. A list of the types of documents that you can provide to verify ownership is available here.
You should make sure that the owners and directors on your account are a 1:1 match with your documentation. Don't list extra owners or directors that aren't shown on your documents.
Frequently asked questions
Review these frequently asked questions about Shopify Payments requirements in Czechia.
Why do you need my photo ID and proof of address if I'm a company, partnership, or non-profit?
Even if you're set up as a company, partnership, or non-profit, Shopify's banking partners are required by regulations in Czechia to verify the identities of the people associated with the business, including their identities and where they're located.
I'm a citizen of Czechia and was born there, but I don't currently live in Czechia. Can I use Shopify Payments in Czechia?
If your business type is Individual / Sole Proprietorship, then you're required to live in Czechia to be eligible for Shopify Payments in Czechia. If you don't currently live in Czechia, then you need to create a Shopify Payments account for the region where you do live.
Update your store address to your current location. If your location is eligible for Shopify Payments, then you can create a Shopify Payments account for that region instead.
If you're a partnership, company, or non-profit, then you're not required to personally live in Czechia, but your business must be registered in Czechia and have a Czechia business address. If you need help, then contact Shopify Support.
I'm a partnership in Czechia. You're asking for a company identification number, but I don't have one. What should I do?
If you're a partnership in Czechia being asked for a company identification number but you don't have one, then you're set up as the incorrect business type. If you're in the process of setting up the account, then go back to the business type selection screen and select Unregistered partnership.
If you've already set up the account and are being asked for a company identification number as part of your verification process, then update your business type through Settings > General > Business Details. Click the button beside your business entity, and then click Edit to update that business's information, including business type. Contact Shopify Support if you're having difficulty.
I'm a sole proprietor in Czechia. Don't you want my business registration or information?
For the purposes of business and identity verification in Czechia, only the personal information of the owner is required if you're a sole trader or sole proprietor.
If you're a sole proprietor, then don't attempt to sign up as a different business type. You might have difficulty passing verification.
I'm a publicly traded company in Czechia. Which business type should I pick?
You should select Registered corporation. For the purposes of business verification, the process for public and privately owned companies is identical. You can skip past the section of the account setup form that requests that you add owners. You're not required to list any beneficial owners, if you have none.
If you're a publicly traded company in Czechia, you've already set up the Shopify Payments account, and you're now being asked for ownership information as part of your verification process, then update your ownership details to reflect that you have no owners. Remove the Owner role from any people on file, and instead ensure that all of your directors are listed on the account and have the Director role assigned.
You might be asked to confirm that the listed directorship is correct. If you can confirm that it looks correct, then click the Sign button to digitally attest to the information on file.
If you have any difficulty with this process, then contact Shopify Support for assistance.
I don't have a company identification number in Czechia, but I'm not an individual or sole trader. I'm a different kind of business.
If you don't have a company identification number, then Shopify has business type options available for Unregistered partnership and Unregistered non-profit. Both of these business types still need to provide the applicable business documentation confirming that they're registered in Czechia.
If neither of these business types fits your business, then you should select Individual / Sole Proprietorship and assign a key decision maker or owner as the account representative.
How do I update my Shopify Payments account information?
If you're actively being asked to complete account verification, then you can make any updates to your information from the verification page, along with submitting any documents that are being requested.
Outside of the verification process, the store owner can update these details through Settings > General > Business Details. Click the button beside your business entity, and then click Edit to update that business's information, including business type.
Note that any changes that you make here are automatically sent to our banking partners for review, and the new information is re-run through their verification process. It's possible that the changes automatically re-verify, but you might also be asked for supporting documents.
What happens if I miss my verification deadline?
You'll see a temporary pause on your payouts until the verification process is completed. After the first deadline is reached and payouts are temporarily paused, you might see a second deadline that indicates when your ability to accept orders with Shopify Payments will be temporarily paused.
All of these pauses are temporary, and are automatically lifted after you complete verification. Refer to your admin page for your deadlines.
Starting in June 2026, brand new Shopify Payments Czechia accounts have 90 days from the first order processed to complete verification. If 90 days pass, then any orders that you processed using Shopify Payments might be automatically refunded.
This policy applies only to European countries, and only to brand new accounts that are created on or after June 2026. If this policy applies to you, then warnings will tell the store owner when to expect the refunds to process.
