Setting up the DoorDash sales channel

On this page, you can learn about the requirements and considerations for selling on DoorDash with Shopify, how to install the DoorDash sales channel, and how to connect your store to DoorDash.

Requirements for selling on DoorDash with Shopify

Review the following requirements for using the DoorDash sales channel on Shopify:

  • You must have an active Shopify account.
  • Your store must be based in the United States.
  • You must have a physical retail storefront that a Dasher can visit to pick up orders.
  • You need a DoorDash Merchant account. If you don't already sell on DoorDash, then you can create an account during setup.
  • You must have at least 20 active products published to the DoorDash sales channel with up-to-date inventory.
  • Your products must have high-quality images. Products without images aren't displayed on DoorDash.
  • Your products must have clear, detailed descriptions and accurate prices.
  • Your products must not primarily include items that DoorDash doesn't currently support.

You don't need a specific Shopify plan to use the DoorDash sales channel. The DoorDash sales channel doesn't restrict installation based on the size of your business.

The DoorDash sales channel is available to eligible physical retail merchants in the following business categories:

  • Beauty

Considerations for selling on DoorDash with Shopify

Before you set up the DoorDash sales channel, review the following considerations:

  • The DoorDash sales channel is free to install. There are no setup fees, monthly software costs, or per-order integration fees.
  • DoorDash charges commission on your orders, and the rate depends on the DoorDash plan you choose during setup.
  • You manage your DoorDash product catalog from your Shopify admin. Because DoorDash can't edit your product data directly, any changes to your products need to be made in Shopify.
  • Inventory and catalog changes that you make in Shopify can take from a few seconds to a few minutes to be displayed on your DoorDash menu.

Install the DoorDash sales channel

  1. Go to the DoorDash app page on the Shopify App Store.
  2. If you're already logged in to your Shopify account, then click Install. Otherwise, click Log in to install and follow the prompts to log in to your Shopify account.
  3. On the Install app page, click Install.

You can also find the app by searching for DoorDash Sales Channel in the Shopify App Store from your Shopify admin.

Connect your store to DoorDash

After you install the sales channel, you need to connect a store location to DoorDash. You can connect a location whether or not you already sell on DoorDash.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > DoorDash.

  2. Click Get Started.

  3. Click Connect a Store.

  4. Review and agree to the terms when prompted.

  5. Enter the required details for your DoorDash business.

  6. Select the store location that you want to connect.

  7. Review how your product listings are displayed on the DoorDash Marketplace, and then acknowledge the information.

  8. Connect your DoorDash account:

    • If you already sell on DoorDash, then log in to your DoorDash Merchant account. When prompted, match the Shopify store location that you selected to the corresponding DoorDash store, and then confirm the store connection.
    • If you're new to DoorDash, then sign up for a DoorDash Merchant account. You need to provide your business details, verify your phone number, set your business hours, choose a DoorDash plan, and add your bank account information so that you can get paid.
  9. Review your connection details, and then follow the prompts to begin onboarding.

After you connect, DoorDash begins onboarding your store. You can track the progress with the Activation Tracker in the DoorDash Merchant Portal.

If your onboarding is paused or stuck, then complete the following steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > DoorDash.

  2. Click Resume Connecting to DoorDash.

  3. Follow the prompts to complete onboarding.

Connect additional store locations

If you have more than one store location, then you can connect each one to DoorDash. You can't select a location that's already connected, and each connected location has its own status.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > DoorDash.

  2. Click Connect a Store.

  3. Select the store location that you want to connect.

  4. Follow the prompts to complete the connection.

Deactivate or disconnect your DoorDash stores

You can temporarily pause your DoorDash stores, or permanently disconnect a store or all stores from DoorDash.

Temporarily deactivate your DoorDash stores

You can temporarily pause your connected DoorDash stores when you don't want your stores to be orderable on DoorDash. Deactivating your stores stops catalog and inventory sync, and orders aren't synced to Shopify.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > DoorDash.

  2. Click Deactivate all stores.

To reactivate your stores, click Activate All Stores.

Disconnect your DoorDash connection

Disconnecting a store is permanent. After you disconnect a store or all stores, reconnecting the app doesn't restore the previous store or account on DoorDash. To sell on DoorDash again after disconnecting, you need to complete a new setup. To temporarily pause your DoorDash stores instead, use Deactivate all stores.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > DoorDash.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To permanently close a single connected store location, click Disconnect store.
    • To permanently close all connected locations or your DoorDash account, click Disconnect all stores.
