Managing your Shopify Credit business charge card security

You can safeguard your Shopify Credit card and respond to security concerns in your Shopify admin. You can lock or unlock your card when it's lost or stolen, and dispute incorrect transactions. Shopify Credit also monitors card activity for unusual transactions and sends fraud alerts to help you identify and address potential fraud.

Fraud alerts on Shopify Credit business charge card

Shopify Credit monitors your card transactions for signs of unusual or suspicious activity. If a transaction seems unusual, then you receive a fraud alert. Fraud alerts help protect your funds and let you confirm whether a transaction is fraudulent, or if it was authorized by the card owner.

SMS fraud alerts are sent from +1 678 572 6998 to the phone number associated with your Shopify Credit business charge card, and include transaction details such as the amount, vendor name, and the last digits of your card. You can confirm or decline the transaction directly from the message. If you don't respond within 24 hours, then the alert expires and the transaction remains declined.

Responding to a fraud alert

You can respond to a fraud alert directly from the SMS by replying with one of the following keywords:

  • YES: Confirms that the transaction is authorized. The transaction can be retried immediately. No further action is required.
  • NO: Confirms that the transaction is unauthorized. Your card is immediately canceled, and the following actions are taken:
    • For virtual cards, a new virtual card is automatically issued.
    • For physical cards, you can order a replacement card by confirming your shipping address. Learn how to replace your card.
  • STOP: Opts you out of receiving SMS fraud alerts. You don't receive future alerts and might miss critical security notifications. This isn't recommended.
  • START: Opts you back into SMS fraud alerts.

Meta transaction alerts

Shopify Credit includes enhanced security for Meta (Facebook) advertising transactions. When you make your first Meta transaction using your Shopify Credit business charge card, you receive both an email notification and an alert in your Shopify admin. This helps identify and prevent unauthorized Meta advertising charges.

Staff card notifications

If you issue Shopify Credit business charge cards to your staff, then fraud alerts are sent to the phone number associated with the staff member's card.

If a fraud alert is triggered, then the authorized representative (AR) on the account also receives an email notification. ARs are responsible for monitoring staff card usage and ensuring phone numbers are up to date. ARs can remove staff cardholder access and cancel cards at any time.
