Handling a Shopify store review

If your store is flagged for review and is temporarily unavailable, then Shopify sends an email to the store owner's email address. This page explains why store reviews happen and what to include in your appeal. To submit an appeal, log in to your Shopify admin, where you're redirected to the appeal form. If you use Shopify Payments, then your account is temporarily suspended during the review.

Reasons for a Shopify store review

To help maintain a safe and reliable shopping environment for everyone, Shopify asks that you follow the Shopify Terms of Service, Shopify Acceptable Use Policy, and Supplementary Terms for E.U. and U.K. Merchants. Stores are flagged for review only when there are serious concerns about compliance with these terms.

Submitting an appeal for your store

To appeal the decision, submit an appeal form from your Shopify admin.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin. You're automatically redirected to the appeal form page.
  2. On the appeal form, complete the following actions:
    • Provide information about your business.
    • Upload a valid government-issued ID.
    • Optional: Submit extra documentation or other details about your business, such as proof of business association and proof of inventory.
  3. Ensure that all the information is correct, and then click Submit for review.

What to expect after submitting an appeal

After you submit an appeal, your case undergoes a thorough review:

  • Your documents, identity verification, and explanations are examined.
  • A decision is made based on the comprehensive evaluation of your appeal.
  • You receive a response detailing the outcome to the store owner's email address.

If your appeal is successful, then you may need to re-add a billing payment method in your Shopify admin.
