Generating apps with Sidekick

You can use Sidekick to generate apps in your Shopify admin to help you manage your store. Describe your idea, and Sidekick builds and refines the app based on your prompts. After you install a generated app, you can review its permissions and uninstall it as you would for any other app.

Review the following examples of apps that Sidekick could help you create:

  • An app that can recommend which products you need to reorder based on your sales velocity.
  • An app that generates discounted checkout links and QR codes for selected products.
  • An app that searches for customers and creates custom discounts.
  • An app that creates a task tracker for your team.

Considerations for creating an app

Before using Sidekick to create an app, review the following considerations:

  • Generated apps can change customer-facing data in your store. Test the app thoroughly before installing it.
  • Generated apps are shared at the store level. To generate or edit apps, staff members need the App development > Develop permission.
  • After your initial prompt, Sidekick creates a plan and generates the app. For complex apps, Sidekick might build the app in stages.
  • Hourly and weekly limits apply to generating apps. Your hourly limit refreshes every hour and your weekly limit refreshes every 7 days. More complex apps use more of your limit than simpler ones. Sidekick notifies you when you're approaching your limit.
