Predefined roles

Your store or organization might have predefined roles available that you can assign to your users. You can edit or delete these roles. Learn more about managing roles.

Predefined roles available for merchant stores, with each role's category and its default permissions.

Online store editor	Store role	The Online store editor role grants a user the following store permissions: Home All permissions in Online store All permissions in Content All permissions in Files, except Delete
Customer support	Store role	The Customer support role grants a user the following store permissions: Home All permissions in Orders All permissions in Draft orders
Merchandiser	Store role	The Merchandiser role grants a user the following store permissions: Home All permissions in Products All permissions in Catalogs All permissions in Content All permissions in Files, except Delete
Marketer	Store role	The Marketer role grants a user the following store permissions: Home All permissions in Marketing All permissions in Customers
Store manager	POS role	The Store manager role grants full staff and manager permissions in Shopify POS, including the ability to approve actions that other POS roles need approval for. It grants the following Point of Sale permissions: Checkout, including custom sales, discounts, and taxes Orders, refunds, exchanges, and fulfillment Customer management and store credit Register, cash drawer, and payment tracking sessions Retail reports and store settings
Cashier	POS role	The Cashier role grants the permissions needed to process sales at checkout. It grants the following Point of Sale permissions: Checkout and offline checkout Applying discount codes Adding and creating customers Opening the cash drawer and managing payment tracking sessions Cashing out gift cards
Sales associate	POS role	The Sales associate role grants the permissions needed to sell and support customers on the sales floor. Some actions, such as custom discounts and refunds, require manager approval. It grants the following Point of Sale permissions: Checkout, shipping carts to customers, and editing taxes Applying discount codes, and applying custom discounts with manager approval Managing draft orders and orders at other locations Refunds and exchanges with manager approval Adding, editing, and managing customers Opening the cash drawer and managing payment tracking sessions
